Product Engineer – Chassis Overview / Summary

We are seeking a Product Engineer to design, develop, and validate structural components for passenger trucks and vehicles. The role will focus on developing innovative, efficient, cost- and weight-effective solutions for underbody components while balancing functional and engineering requirements.

The engineer will work with frame structures, frame-mounted structural sheet metal, body isolators, tuned mass dampers, and related components. The position requires strong CAD and 3D modeling capabilities, analytical engineering skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate structural components for passenger trucks and vehicles.

  • Support design and release engineering for frame structures, mounts, spare tire winches, and/or tow hooks through forward model development, release, and launch.

  • Develop and manipulate existing CAD models to generate iterative design proposals.

  • Apply engineering first principles to structural design and interpret CAE model outputs.

  • Design and release built-to-print and/or full-service supplier content while ensuring designs meet applicable requirements and engineering standards.

  • Provide design leadership to meet vehicle attributes, including package, crash, durability, commercial upfitting, and thermal management requirements.

  • Lead, review, and approve frame structure designs to ensure component and vehicle requirements are met.

  • Resolve durability, assembly, and functional issues.

  • Apply engineering disciplines including DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, Perfect Drawing Plans, and Engineering Specifications.

  • Support robust designs and failure mode avoidance.

  • Coach, technically mentor, and guide peer engineers through regular technical information exchange.

  • Support material cost reduction, warranty reduction, and benchmarking initiatives.

  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to balance deliverables and develop effective engineering solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • At least 3 years of experience in frame or structural design and release.

  • Experience with CAD and 3D modeling.

  • Experience with CATIA V5/V6 and/or 3DX.

  • Ability to manipulate existing CAD models and develop iterative design proposals.

  • Strong analytical skills and understanding of engineering first principles as applied to structural design.

  • Ability to interpret CAE model outputs.

  • Experience with design and release activities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to lead a team and work effectively with cross-functional groups.
