Full job description

Summary:

As a Hardware Systems Architect at Meta Superintelligence Labs, you will lead architecture on upcoming consumer AI hardware products, help drive the overall strategy and roadmap, and be a part of the teams designing, building, and testing prototypes for future consumer AI experiences. The Hardware Systems Architect will lead the definition and convergence of complex and novel sub-systems, and product architectures aimed at pushing beyond the state-of-the-art consumer AI systems. These can span new sensing systems, display/optics systems, input and output devices. The role requires technical communication with cross-functional teams across ID, hardware engineering, partnerships, supply chain, and core technology groups to drive the incubation of new technologies from proof of concept through integration into products for mass production.Starting with a broad engineering background in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, semiconductors or related fields, we’re looking for a unique system designer or architect.

Required Skills:

Hardware Systems Architect, AI Hardware Products Responsibilities:

  1. Ownership of platform system architecture definition across one or more subsystems, including compute/memory, displays/optics, electrical engineering, sensors, audio, wireless connectivity, I/O, and firmware, from initial conception through prototyping, product development, and production ramp

  2. Across a portfolio of products, work with other system architects and software engineering teams to understand and document requirements for workloads that need to be supported. Use this to support selection/definition of compute silicon that has appropriate HW accelerators/cores for these workloads

  3. Maintain detailed specifications and assumptions for workloads, to ensure a common understanding and alignment across teams while implementing new features

  4. Conduct workload profiling to understand system resource utilization metrics for existing and new software features on target compute platforms

  5. Conduct detailed analyses and trade-off studies to inform architecture decisions

  6. Deliver engineering solutions for high-impact architectural problems in the early phase of concept development (ensuring the translation of marketing requirements to product)

  7. Communicate technology and product strategy effectively to both internal and external stakeholders

  8. Guide management and partner teams on long-term technology investments

  9. Create hardware system metrics, standards, and tools

  10. Drive development of system requirements to create new AR and/or AI experiences, and help advance technology and research roadmaps

  11. Travel up to 20% domestically and internationally

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and/or other related technical fields, with product experience in electrical, systems, or computer engineering

  2. 12+ years of experience with architecture definition and/or systems engineering in one or more of the following areas: electrical, silicon, firmware, audio, sensors, wireless connectivity, displays, and optical systems

  3. Fundamentals of computer architecture

  4. Experience in rapid prototyping and creating proof of concept models to share ideas and improve architectural decisions

  5. Communication experience working with Product Development engineers, Product Managers, and other hardware/software cross-functional teams

  6. Experience working with partnership teams and external partners at both a supply base and product level

  7. Experience working in cross-functional teams, navigating ambiguity, mapping trade spaces, and transitioning concepts from prototype to high-volume consumer products.'

  8. Experience in systems-level engineering, experience with SoC evaluation, optical systems, sensors, CV algorithms, software, AI etc

  9. Experience with consumer electronics systems spanning hardware, firmware, and software integration

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience modeling system power and, using those models, inform trade-offs against key architectural decisions (e.g. battery life, thermals, silicon roadmaps, power load profiles)

  2. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)

  3. Experience creating system models to analyze system compute, latency and communication interface bandwidths across multiple subsystems within a heterogeneous compute environment in order to define the system architecture to meet the overall goals of the product definition

  4. Understanding of memory subsystems including mass storage and filesystem as well as volatile memory, memory management and its impacts on overall system performance

  5. Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies

  6. Experience with AI systems aimed at capturing/processing/delivering audio visual, IMU or other positional data streams

  7. Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)

  8. Experience in one or more of the following areas: firmware development, programming, computer vision, Android/Zephyr OSs, game development and complex sensing systems

Public Compensation:

$208,000/year to $289,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
