Full job description

About Uncovr Uncovr is building AI-powered infrastructure for the future of surgery. We work at the intersection of artificial intelligence, surgical video, clinical workflows, and healthcare technology. Our mission is to help surgical teams better understand, document, and improve surgical procedures by turning complex clinical data into structured, useful, and trustworthy insights. We are expanding our network of experienced surgeons to bring deep clinical expertise into the development and evaluation of next-generation surgical AI.

About the Collaboration We are looking for expert surgeons across a wide range of specialties to contribute to the review, annotation, and clinical interpretation of surgical videos. In this role, you will help translate surgical expertise into structured annotations and feedback that support AI training and evaluation. You will identify what happens during a procedure, explain the clinical reasoning behind surgical actions, and assess AI-generated interpretations against the realities of surgical practice. This is a flexible, paid collaboration designed to fit alongside your clinical commitments, with assignments aligned with your specialty and availability.

What You’ll Do

  • Review surgical videos within your area of expertise and provide structured, time-stamped annotations.

  • Identify relevant anatomy, instruments, operative steps, techniques, and key events.

  • Explain surgical actions and their clinical rationale, distinguishing visible evidence from interpretation.

  • Highlight anatomical variations, unexpected findings, complications, and deviations from the usual operative sequence.

  • Assess surgical technique and gesture quality against agreed clinical criteria.

  • Flag uncertainty, limited visibility, and situations where the video alone does not support a confident conclusion.

  • Review AI-generated descriptions and operative reports for clinical accuracy, completeness, and consistency with the video.

  • Identify missed events, unsupported statements, incorrect terminology, and errors in the sequence of events.

  • Help develop and refine annotation guidelines, clinical rubrics, and reference examples.

  • Collaborate with Uncovr’s clinical and AI teams to resolve ambiguous cases and improve annotation consistency.

  • Provide clear feedback that helps improve AI performance across routine and complex procedures.

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified surgeons with substantial operative experience in their specialty.

  • Strong knowledge of surgical anatomy, techniques, procedural workflows, and intraoperative decision-making.

  • Ability to interpret surgical video and describe operative events accurately and clearly.

  • Sound clinical judgment, including the ability to recognize uncertainty and the limits of video-based interpretation.

  • Strong attention to detail and a consistent approach to structured review.

  • Ability to follow annotation guidelines and provide constructive feedback on their application.

  • Comfort using digital tools and learning a dedicated annotation platform.

  • Clear communication skills and the ability to explain clinical reasoning to colleagues from technical backgrounds.

  • Reliability in completing agreed assignments and communicating availability.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in minimally invasive, laparoscopic, or robotic surgery.

  • Experience teaching, supervising, or assessing surgical trainees.

  • Involvement in surgical research, quality improvement, or clinical audit.

  • Experience reviewing operative reports or assessing clinical documentation.

  • Previous involvement in surgical video annotation, AI evaluation, or medical technology development.

  • Interest in surgical education, artificial intelligence, and the responsible use of technology in clinical practice.

Who You Are You are clinically rigorous, observant, and interested in helping surgical AI reflect the complexity of real operations. You can explain both what you see and how you interpret it. You recognize that surgical videos may be incomplete or ambiguous, and you are comfortable identifying what requires further context or confirmation. You enjoy sharing your expertise and working with clinicians, researchers, and engineers to turn surgical knowledge into useful tools.

Why Collaborate with Uncovr At Uncovr, your clinical expertise will directly inform how AI understands surgical procedures and produces clinically useful outputs. You will contribute to meaningful advances in surgical technology through a flexible, paid collaboration, while working closely with a team building tools for real clinical workflows.
