Full job description

About Quizlet: At Quizlet, our mission is to help every learner achieve their outcomes in the most effective and delightful way. We’re a $1B+ learning platform used by two-thirds of U.S. high school students and half of college students, powering over 1 billion learning interactions each week.

We blend cognitive science with machine learning to personalize and enhance the learning experience for students, professionals, and lifelong learners alike. We’re energized by the potential to power more learners through multiple approaches and various tools.

Let’s Build the Future of Learning Join us to design and deliver AI-powered learning tools that scale across the world and unlock human potential.

Why Join Quizlet? 🌎 Massive reach: 60M+ users, 1B+ interactions per week 🧠 Cutting-edge tech: Generative AI, adaptive learning, cognitive science 📈 Strong momentum: Top-tier investors, sustainable business, real traction 🎯 Mission-first: Work that makes a difference in people’s lives 🤝 Inclusive culture: Committed to equity, diversity, and belonging

About the Role: This is a hybrid social-and-PR role, roughly 70% brand social and 30% earned media. You are the Directly Responsible Individual for all @quizlet social content — strategy, ideation, creation, posting, community, and measurement — and you also run the announcements, media relationships, and thought leadership that put Quizlet in the conversation. The two halves compound: viral content becomes earned coverage, and announcements become social moments.

In this role, you will:

  • Own content end-to-end for all Quizlet-branded channels — including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, Threads, etc. — from strategy through posting, leveraging the best of our creator channels and creating content yourself every day, hands-on at every step.

  • Insert Quizlet into culture through content and coverage that feels more human than corporate, more irreverent than sterile — building the recurring themes, motifs, and storytelling that make us a real participant in pop culture rather than a brand commenting on it.

  • Run announcements end-to-end for product and company news — press releases, media pitching, and amplification across blog, social, and paid — with a goal of growing earned media coverage 20% year over year.

  • Own the tentpole moments where social and PR have to move together: Spring Rush, back-to-school, finals, March Madness, April Fools', and the quick-turn newsjacking opportunities in between. You keep an always-on calendar of these and know which ones are worth our time.

  • Build and cultivate media relationships, with a focus on raising visibility with top-tier press, and support our thought leaders with sharp POVs on AI, the future of education, and digital learning — using data storytelling (including our How America Learns research) as the hook and developing content for speaking engagements, executive social and media opportunities.

  • Manage our agency partners — you own the PR agency relationship and budget from day one, setting priorities, briefing them, holding the work to our standards, and building a collaborative partnership for outbound comms and reactive/crisis situations.

  • Manage our community — monitoring and engaging across channels daily, routing user issues to the right internal teams, and surfacing what you're hearing back to product and marketing.

  • Work cross-functionally to measure impact and keep the story consistent — partnering with Paid, Lifecycle, PMM, Brand Design, Product, and Ads, and with our social agency partner, to make sure the work ladders up to Quizlet's brand and business goals.

  • Report on performance and act on it — tracking content and coverage against views, engagement, and user growth, and articulating why something worked so we can do it again.

  • Submit our products, brand, and leaders for industry awards and speaking opportunities that put Quizlet in good company.

  • Handle rapid-response and crisis communications, including coordinating with leadership and external agencies during sensitive situations. You'll be the point person for reputation management and media inquiries during challenging moments.

What you bring to the table:

  • Deep understanding of what makes branded social content actually engaging, plus a one-step-ahead instinct for what differentiates a brand on social.

  • Proven track record of creating engaging short-form content — you may have tens or hundreds of millions of views in aggregate.

  • Excellent grasp of the media landscape and the ability to generate insight from trends in learning, consumer, technology, and business.

  • Ability to analyze and articulate why content goes viral and connect content performance to business impact.

  • Strong command of timing, message, and voice when managing internal leaders and external partners through a launch or a story.

  • Exceptional creative storytelling abilities, and up-to-the-moment knowledge of viral trends and cultural moments.

  • Recognized authority in your field — cross-functional partners seek out your opinion and approval — with the judgment to make independent calls on complex work and pivot when something isn't the right fit for the brand.

  • Experience directing outside agencies or vendors — briefing them well, raising the quality of what comes back, and knowing what to keep in-house.

  • Self-starter; proactive by nature, with a bias toward action over deliberation and the ability to unblock yourself.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience leading socials for a top-tier, leading brand.

  • Experience partnering across social and PR for earned media stemming from viral social content.

  • Experience handling and coordinating on-set film shoots, including filming on a campus and coordinating logistics for physical items around locations.

Work Location We’re happy to share that this is a hybrid position in our San Francisco office. To support collaboration, we ask employees to be in the office at least two days a week: Wednesday and Thursday.

Compensation, Benefits & Perks:

  • Collaborate with your manager and team to create a healthy work-life balance

  • 20 vacation days that we expect you to take!

  • Competitive health, dental, and vision insurance (100% employee and 75% dependent PPO, Dental, VSP Choice)

  • Employer-sponsored 401k plan with company match

  • Access to LinkedIn Learning and other resources to support professional growth

  • Paid Family Leave, FSA, HSA, Commuter benefits, and Wellness benefits

  • 40 hours of annual paid time off to participate in volunteer programs of choice
