An exciting career awaits you

At MPC, we’re committed to being a great place to work – one that welcomes new ideas, encourages diverse perspectives, develops our people, and fosters a collaborative team environment.

Position Overview:

The Senior Planning & Optimization Advisor(Engineer) will develop and operationalize integrated planning and optimization processes, decision-support models, and tools by embedding data-driven decision-making into business processes and workflows across the value chain. This role bridges Commercial, Trading, Operations, Transportation and Logistics, and Digital/IT to build integrated, optimized plans and translate strategy into actionable business decisions that create measurable and traceable value for the organization.

This individual will be responsible for coordinating the buildout and implementation of planning and optimization capabilities, including decision-support models, tools, workflows, and business processes. Responsibilities span defining business requirements and data inputs, evaluating scenarios, validating model outputs, translating recommendations into aligned commercial and operational plans, monitoring performance against plan, and ensuring stakeholder adoption through strong cross functional collaboration and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement standardized planning and optimization business processes for the NG/NGL system, including defining workflows, decision rights, and ownership across value chain stakeholders.

  • Coordinate optimization model development, business requirements, constraint validation, implementation workflows, and adoption across Commercial, Scheduling, Operations, Logistics, and Digital/IT.

  • Develop and optimize short-term, mid-term, and lookback plans using local, regional, and cross-regional models to maximize NG/NGL value chain performance.

  • Manage NG/NGL forecasting and planning activities independently, ensuring plans remain aligned with operational capabilities, producer and customer contracts, market conditions, and business objectives.

  • Maintain and enhance planning and optimization models by validating assumptions, updating constraints, improving data quality, and increasing model accuracy to reflect operating realities.

  • Identify emerging constraints and value opportunities and develop optimization strategies that improve recovery decisions, asset utilization, product routing, and overall value chain performance.

  • Perform scenario and sensitivity analyses to evaluate the impacts of changing market conditions, operational constraints, disruptions, producer nominations, and strategic initiatives.

  • Integrate historical performance reviews, backcast analyses, and scenario evaluations to improve forecasting accuracy, planning effectiveness, and continuous improvement of business decisions.

  • Partner with Operations, Commercial, Trading, Scheduling, Logistics, Planning, Engineering, and Digital/IT teams to align plans across assets and planning horizons, support execution of operating strategies, and provide technical guidance to less experienced advisors.
