Overview

The College of Sciences and Mathematics Pre-Health Program seeks candidates for the position of Pre-Health Specialist. The position will provide specialized counseling and programming from students looking to go into a professional field such as medical, dental, orthopedic, pharmacy, physical therapy, and veterinarian etc. profession. Responsibilities

  • Effectively advising undergraduate students interested in careers in the health professions through individual and group appointments, via email, in person and Zoom for individual and group advising.This position provides advice to students on how to be competitive applicants for health programs through shadowing and participating in community service, medically related experiences, leadership activities, research, and admission test preparation.

  • Teaching a Pre-Health Professions Orientation class of internship course.

  • Regularly participating in professional development activities and creative endeavors.

  • Assisting in the recruitment of pre-health students.

  • Serving as a subject matter expert on curricula changes, admissions standards, and requirements of a variety of professional schools.

  • Assisting with the Pre-Professional Application Course (PPAC) to evaluate student credentials as they relate to professional schools.

  • Assisting with various office projects, programs, and committees related to the needs and goals of the pre-health students.

  • Advising a pre-health student organization.

Qualifications

Level I:

  • Master's Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Education, Communications, or related field and 2 years of experience in counseling, academic advising, admissions, student affairs, health professionals (i.e. nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, or related), science fields, or related.

Level II:

  • Master's Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Education, Communications, or related field and 4 years of experience in counseling, academic advising, admissions, student affairs, health professionals (i.e. nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, or related), science fields, or related.

SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED FOR EXPERIENCE: Yes, When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
