Job Summary

NetApp is seeking a high-performing, high-potential Commodity Manager, HDD to support the sourcing and supply strategy for hard disk drives—a critical commodity for NetApp’s business and product portfolio.

This high-growth individual-contributor role partners with the Senior Commodity Manager and cross-functional teams to advance supplier strategy, commercial negotiations, market intelligence, supply-risk management, and product lifecycle planning. The role has high visibility with senior leadership and requires exceptional analytical skills, strategic thinking, and clear executive communication.

In addition to HDD responsibilities, this individual will lead or contribute to organization-wide initiatives that improve Global Procurement processes, decision-making, and business outcomes, with an emphasis on practical AI, automation, and data-driven solutions.

Job Responsbilities

  • Support development and execution of NetApp’s global HDD commodity strategy, including supplier, technology-roadmap, capacity, and commercial planning.

  • Manage assigned supplier relationships, commercial workstreams, business reviews, and issue-resolution activities.

  • Partner on supplier negotiations, including pricing, supply agreements, capacity commitments, allocation protections, and supply-assurance provisions.

  • Analyze market conditions, supplier capacity, cost drivers, lead times, technology transitions, product lifecycles, and competitive developments.

  • Develop cost models, quotation analyses, market assessments, and total-cost-of-ownership recommendations.

  • Partner with Engineering, Product Management, Operations, Finance, Quality, and Supply Chain teams on component selection, supplier qualification, lifecycle planning, and supply continuity.

  • Identify and help mitigate supply risks related to capacity, allocation, geopolitics, trade, logistics, and supplier concentration.

  • Prepare concise, data-driven executive updates and recommendations on supplier performance, market developments, commercial opportunities, and risks.

  • Present complex technical and commercial information clearly to cross-functional partners and senior leaders.

  • Lead or contribute to Global Procurement improvement initiatives, including process simplification, supplier-management enhancements, data-quality improvements, and AI-enabled workflow or analytics solutions.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Operations, Finance, Economics, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.

  • 4+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain, sales, marketing, pricing, product management, business development, operations, engineering, supplier management, or a related commercial or technical role.

  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate complex information, identify trends and risks, and develop actionable recommendations.

  • Strong strategic thinking and business judgment, with the ability to connect supplier, market, operational, and business considerations.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.

  • Experience with commercial negotiations, supplier or customer management, pricing analysis, business cases, sourcing decisions, or cross-functional initiatives.

  • Strong collaboration, ownership, learning agility, and ability to independently drive work across functions.

  • Interest in applying AI, automation, analytics, and process improvement to improve business outcomes.

  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid or remote environment with globally distributed teams and suppliers.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA, Master’s degree, or advanced degree in a related business, engineering, supply chain, operations, or finance discipline.

  • Experience in the HDD industry, including through procurement, sales, marketing, pricing, operations, engineering, product management, business development, or supplier management.

  • Direct experience in HDD procurement, strategic sourcing, commodity management, or supplier management.

  • Experience in technology or electronics supply chains, such as enterprise storage, data-center infrastructure, server hardware, semiconductors, or electronic components.

  • Understanding of HDD market dynamics, technology roadmaps, manufacturing, capacity, cost drivers, quality, and product lifecycle management.

  • Experience with cost modeling, quotation analysis, supplier selection, contract negotiations, supply planning, or supplier performance management.

  • Experience managing supply-chain risks, including geopolitical, trade, logistics, supplier-continuity, or regional-concentration risks.

  • Experience leading process-improvement, automation, analytics, or AI-enabled business initiatives.

  • How You’ll Make an Impact

  • You will help strengthen NetApp’s HDD supply strategy through rigorous analysis, supplier collaboration, commercial discipline, and proactive risk management. You will also help shape a more scalable and data-driven Global Procurement organization by leading high-impact process and AI-enabled improvement initiatives.

  • This role is ideal for an ambitious, analytically strong professional who is ready to develop strategic commodity-management expertise, engage confidently with senior leadership, and create impact across both the HDD category and Global Procurement.
