Commodity Program Manager, Consumer Notebooks Description - Job Summary The Commodity Program Manager (CPM) is responsible for leading commodity development and qualification for system integration, acting as the counterpart to a System/Platform PM focused specifically on key components (e.g., memory, SSD, display, power, etc.).

  • Owns end-to-end commodity lifecycle within platform development

  • Serves as the bridge between engineering, supply chain, ODM, and commodity teams

  • Drives qualification readiness, risk management, and execution alignment

  • Acts as the central program management focal point to ensure effective communication, stakeholder alignment, and cross-functional execution across all commodity-related activities

This role manages commodity programs across multiple organizations, ensuring successful qualification, readiness, and execution for consumer notebook platforms. The role coordinates stakeholders, manages risks and dependencies, tracks program progress, and drives alignment across engineering, supply chain, suppliers, and ODM partners.

Responsibilities Commodity Development & Qualification Leadership

  • Lead commodity qualification planning and execution
  • Own and maintain qualification matrix (Qual matrix)
  • Track and report qualification status across suppliers and platforms
  • Coordinate qualification activities among engineering, suppliers, and ODM partners to ensure readiness and timely issue resolution

Program Management (Commodity Scope)

  • Manage commodity-related deliverables within the overall platform program
  • Align commodity schedules with platform milestones (NPI phases, builds, RTM)
  • Drive cross-functional execution with EE, ME, system teams, and ODM partners
  • Facilitate communication and decision-making across stakeholders to maintain program alignment and execution efficiency

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Act as the core team interface across:

  • Platform Engineering

  • Supply Chain / Procurement

  • ODM Partners

  • Commodity Engineering Teams

  • Ensure:

  • Alignment of requirements

  • Timely decision-making

  • Issue escalation and resolution

  • Clear communication of priorities, dependencies, and program status across organizations

Risk Management & Issue Resolution

  • Identify and manage:

  • Supplier risks

  • Qualification risks

  • Supply shortages

  • Drive:

  • Mitigation plans for critical issues

  • Communication of risks to system teams and leadership

  • Cross-functional action planning to resolve program and execution challenges

Supply & Qualification Readiness

  • Coordinate:

  • Sample readiness (DB, SI, IUR, etc.)

  • Qualification coverage and test scope

  • Ensure commodity readiness meets:

  • Build schedules

  • Quality and reliability targets

Communication & Status Management

  • Represent commodity status in:

  • Core team meetings

  • Program reviews

  • Provide:

  • Clear status updates

  • Highlight critical blocking issues

  • Alignment with System/Program PMs

  • Executive-ready communication, including concise summaries, risk assessments, and recommendations

Program Leadership

  • Manage commodity programs across engineering, supply chain, procurement, suppliers, and ODM partners to ensure successful execution and delivery
  • Develop and maintain program schedules, key milestones, resource plans, and deliverables aligned with platform development and qualification timelines
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and external partners, manage dependencies, and drive issue resolution
  • Communicate program status, escalations, risks, and mitigation plans to stakeholders and leadership
  • Support process improvements and operational initiatives that improve program execution and product readiness
  • Provide guidance to less-experienced team members while independently managing complex program challenges

Education & Experience Recommended

  • Four-year or Graduate Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • Typically has 5+ years of experience in program management, new product introduction (NPI), engineering development, commodity management, supply chain operations, or a related field
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and ODM/OEM manufacturing partners
