Job Description
The Administrative Director of Hospital Operations provides leadership for the daily operations, strategic planning, and performance of hospital operations across The Mount Sinai Hospital, ensuring seamless hospital operations across a 24/7, 365-day environment.
This leader oversees a high-performing team responsible for operational excellence across major service lines, including Medicine, Surgery, Critical Care, Oncology, Cardiology, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Behavioral Health, Perioperative Services, Sterile Processing, and Pathology. Working in partnership with physician, nursing, and administrative leaders, the Director ensures exceptional operational efficiency, financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and alignment with Mount Sinai Health System’s priorities of clinical excellence, education, and research.

Compensation Statement
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $127,044.00 - $190,565.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
Responsibilities
-
Foster and sustain the physician–nursing–administrative triad leadership model to promote coordinated decision-making, operational alignment, and achievement of clinical, financial, and strategic objectives to proactively identify and resolve operational challenges.

Establish priorities for hospital operations and provide strategic leadership for the development and execution of short- and long-term operational and financial initiatives that align with organizational objectives and drive consistent operational excellence across diverse clinical services.

Collaborate with Facilities, Engineering, Environmental Services, and Infection Prevention to proactively manage facility issues and operational risks, ensuring safe, efficient, and patient-centered care environments.

Ensure continuous regulatory readiness across all assigned services by maintaining compliance with Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Department of Health, and other regulatory and accreditation standards, and leading operational preparedness for surveys, inspections, and accreditation activities.

Direct planning and execution of renovation, construction, and facility improvement projects while minimizing disruption to patient care and hospital operations.

Lead strategic space allocation and utilization planning across hospital operations, optimizing resources to support operational efficiency, patient care, and evolving organizational needs.

Develop and administer departmental and hospital operations budgets, monitoring financial performance through operational dashboards and variance analyses and implementing corrective actions as needed.

Lead long-range capital planning through five-year forecasting and prioritization of facility, equipment, and technology investments while monitoring capital expenditures, directing procurement in collaboration with Supply Chain and Finance, and optimizing equipment resources to improve efficiency and reduce unnecessary expense.

Lead complex operational initiatives and enterprise-wide projects to improve quality, patient safety, operational efficiency, patient experience, and financial performance, applying Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies to redesign processes and eliminate inefficiencies.

Champion and oversee the implementation of digital health initiatives, operational technologies, new programs, clinical workflows, and organizational initiatives that enhance clinical workflow, patient engagement, communication, and operational performance while aligning with institutional goals.

Lead and execute hospital operations efforts in collaboration with emergency management, ensuring patient safety, regulatory readiness, and uninterrupted critical services during planned and unplanned events, including emergencies, disasters, infrastructure disruptions, and other operational contingencies.

Develop business cases and financial analyses supporting new clinical programs, service expansion, and capital investments.

Monitor key performance indicators including patient throughput, length of stay, quality metrics, productivity, patient experience, and financial performance.

Partner with Marketing and Communications to support strategic messaging and organizational initiatives.

Represent Hospital Operations on institutional committees, multidisciplinary workgroups, and executive initiatives, presenting operational analyses and recommendations to senior leadership and executive committees as needed.

Recruit, develop, mentor, and evaluate operational leaders while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous professional growth.
