This student-supporting role requires an in-person, on-campus presence. The team operates on a hybrid work model, allowing remote workdays based on job responsibilities and supervisor approval. About the Position

The Financial Wellness Center ( FWC ) is seeking a student-centered Program Coordinator

to join our dynamic and nationally recognized team. This role offers a unique opportunity to directly impact student success and well-being by directly supporting our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance ( VITA ) annual clinics, and events and programs geared towards financial planning and taxes.

A candidate with experience with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance ( VITA ) and VITA IRS certifications is preferred.

Responsibilities

VITA Program & Volunteer Coordination

  • Support FWC’s IRS VITA Site Coordinator, acting as the primary point of contact for the VITA program including appointment scheduling and volunteer communications.

  • Co-coordinate day-to-day operations of the VITA tax clinic, including volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and scheduling, and recognition/ appreciation efforts throughout the tax season.

  • Ensure compliance with IRS training, certification, and reporting requirements, including quality review of prepared returns, e-file transmission timelines, and maintenance of required volunteer and site records.

  • Escalate site-level compliance issues, volunteer conduct concerns, or IRS -facing risks in a timely manner.

Student Staff Supervision

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and day-to-day support for student peer mentors, including coordinating schedules and project responsibilities.

  • Train, coach, and develop student peer mentors on the Financial Planning and Taxes Track, fostering professional growth and high-quality service delivery.

  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and ongoing development of student peer mentors.

Financial Counseling and Educational Programming

  • Provide specialized financial counseling with expertise in tax-related matters, personal financial planning, student loans, and debt management

  • Develop and maintain learning modules, educational presentations, specialized training, and other tailored programs as needed.

  • Collaborate with FWC staff and peer mentors to continuously improve program and module effectiveness.

Specialized Projects & Initiatives

  • Support the FWC leadership on specialized financial wellness projects and initiatives.

  • Assist with data tracking, reporting, and assessment.

  • Provide general administrative and coordination support as needed to ensure smooth program operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for one year of related work experience)

  • 2 years related experience required.

  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Department-Specific Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for one year of related work experience)

  • Required to obtain IRS VITA / TCE Basic, Advanced, Foreign Student, Quality Review, and Site Coordinator certifications within the first tax season; prior IRS VITA / TCE certification strongly preferred.

  • Required to obtain Accredited Financial Counseling ( AFC ) Certification
