Job Description

This role will be responsible for strategic business development as well as establishing and scaling a differentiated franchise growth capability within Business Banking. This leader will help businesses thrive by combining relationship banking, industry expertise, and innovative financial solutions.

This role owns brand level and multi-unit operator targeting, builds franchisor and industry relationships, creates qualified opportunities for relationship managers, and coordinates capabilities across Business Banking, SBA, Small Business, payments, merchant services, and other enterprise partners. The role is a lean growth overlay that equips the field with franchise expertise and repeatable plays; it does not replace client ownership, relationship manager production, or existing sales and service teams.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Establish and scale a differentiated franchise growth capability that combines relationship banking, industry expertise, and financial solutions to accelerate growth within Business Banking.

  • Serve as the business development leader for the franchise strategy by directing brand and multi-unit operator targeting, developing franchisor and industry relationships, generating qualified opportunities for relationship managers, and coordinating capabilities across Business Banking, SBA, Small Business, ICG, payments, merchant services, and enterprise partners while preserving existing client ownership and sales responsibilities.

  • Develop and lead the national franchise growth strategy, translating market opportunities into clear priorities, target segments, and measurable growth plans.

  • Own the selection and ongoing assessment of priority franchise brands, sectors, franchisors, and multi-unit operators using market intelligence, portfolio considerations, and enterprise risk and credit input.

  • Build senior relationships with franchisors, franchise operators, industry associations, centers of influence, and strategic partners to expand market presence and generate qualified opportunities.

  • Create and manage top-of-funnel activity through referral networks, events, trade shows, targeted campaigns, and strategic partnerships, routing opportunities to the appropriate relationship managers for execution and ongoing client ownership.

  • Design repeatable franchise-specific sales plays, value propositions, and enablement tools that help bankers identify needs and deliver deposits, lending, treasury management, payments, merchant services, and other relevant solutions.

  • Orchestrate cross-business pursuit strategies and governance so U.S. Bank presents one coordinated team to targeted franchise brands and operators.

  • Partners with credit and risk leaders to identify franchise-specific considerations and support practical, consistent approaches for priority brands while maintaining established risk standards.

  • Lead market-facing franchise activities that strengthen U.S. Bank’s visibility, credibility, and connectivity within the industry.

  • Act as a key senior-level collaborator and visible representative of the franchise strategy across executive forums, high-visibility platforms, and enterprise initiatives, influencing stakeholders, advancing strategic priorities, and ensuring alignment across Business Banking and partner organizations.

  • Establish performance measures and operating routines; monitor pipeline, acquisition, relationship depth, portfolio performance, and market trends; and provide recommendations to senior leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • 10 or more years of experience in franchise banking or business development, commercial banking, business banking, business development, or a related field.

  • Must demonstrate success developing and executing growth strategies, converting market opportunities into sustainable business results.

  • Must have ability to lead complex initiatives, influence senior stakeholders across a large, matrixed organization, and apply strong knowledge of relationship banking and the financial needs of business clients.

  • Must have a strong connection with existing franchise relationships.

  • Strong credit background in the needs and client profile of franchisees.
