Job Title: CNC Programmer

Job Description

The CNC Programmer will program, set up, and operate 2.5-axis CNC vertical mills using Mastercam to produce high-precision metal components, primarily stainless steel, in a production environment. This role serves as the primary programming resource on site, creating and optimizing CNC programs, overseeing multiple machines, and ensuring parts meet tight tolerance requirements through careful setup, machining, and in-process inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Program, set up, and operate 2.5-axis CNC Vertical Haas Mills using Mastercam to meet production and quality requirements.

  • Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs to support production needs and improve machining efficiency.

  • Machine metal components, primarily stainless steel, to meet customer specifications and engineering requirements.

  • Perform daily machine setups, including tooling changes and first-piece inspections, to ensure accurate and efficient production.

  • Troubleshoot programming, tooling, and machining issues to maintain consistent quality and productivity.

  • Manage long-term production runs, including jobs that remain in production for more than six months.

  • Complete approximately one machine setup per day while maintaining an efficient production flow across assigned equipment.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements.

  • Maintain tight tolerances of approximately ±0.0005" to ±0.0007" (5 to 7 tenths) on machined components.

  • Conduct in-process quality inspections and adjust machine offsets as needed to ensure parts conform to specifications.

  • Serve as the primary CNC programmer for the facility, supporting all machining operations with accurate and reliable programs.

  • Oversee and optimize production across three CNC machines on-site, ensuring effective use of equipment and resources.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience programming CNC mills using Mastercam.

  • Practical CNC programming experience in a production machining environment.

  • Experience setting up and operating CNC milling machines, ideally vertical Haas mills.

  • Proficiency with Mastercam and AutoCAD for creating and modifying CNC programs and drawings.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.

  • Demonstrated capability to machine stainless steel and other metals to tight tolerances of ±0.0005" to ±0.0007".

  • Strong troubleshooting skills related to CNC programming, tooling, and machining processes.

  • Experience performing first-piece and in-process inspections and making machine offsets to maintain quality.

  • Comfort managing long-term production runs and maintaining consistency over extended periods.

  • Ability to oversee multiple CNC machines and coordinate production activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience as a CNC mill machinist or CNC machinist in a high-precision environment.

  • Familiarity with 2.5-axis machining strategies and optimization techniques.

  • Experience working with stainless steel and similar materials in production settings.

  • Knowledge of best practices for tooling selection, workholding, and machining efficiency.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining tight tolerances and high-quality standards.

  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams.

  • Ability to work independently as the primary programming resource and take ownership of machining processes.

Why Work Here?

You will work in a setting that values precision, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement, with the opportunity to take ownership of core machining operations and make a direct impact on production performance. The role offers stable, structured hours with built-in overtime, and a culture that supports technical growth, problem-solving, and professional development in advanced CNC programming and machining.

Work Environment

This position is based in a production machining facility operating 1st shift hours from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with built-in overtime. You will work primarily on 2.5-axis CNC Vertical Haas Mills and interact with three CNC machines on-site, using Mastercam and AutoCAD as core programming and design tools. The environment focuses on machining stainless steel and other metals to very tight tolerances, requiring careful setups, inspections, and attention to detail. Work is performed on the shop floor around active machinery, tools, and measurement equipment, in a setting designed for consistent, long-term production runs.
