Senior Software Test Analyst – Java, Playwright/Selenium & API Testing Position Overview

Work on a software testing role focused on manual and automated testing, web application automation, API testing, test strategy, and quality assurance. This position requires hands-on experience translating requirements and user stories into effective test cases while supporting Agile/Scrum development through test execution, defect tracking, reporting, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

What You'll Do

  • Design and execute manual and automated test cases.

  • Analyze requirements, user stories in Azure DevOps, and acceptance criteria to design effective, reusable test cases, including positive, negative, and boundary testing.

  • Generate and document test plans and strategies.

  • Perform API testing using tools such as Postman, REST Client, and others.

  • Automate web applications using frameworks such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or similar.

  • Generate testing reports and metrics.

  • Generate and acquire test data.

  • Perform ADA Compliance testing using tools such as AccVerify, JAWS, and others.

  • Build environment-specific test suites for DEV, UAT, QAT, and PRE-PROD with integrated application life cycle management.

  • Identify, document, and track bugs clearly and concisely using tools such as Azure DevOps.

  • Perform performance and load testing using tools such as JMeter or LoadRunner, including scripting, executing test scenarios, analyzing results, and identifying system bottlenecks.

  • Write clean, maintainable, object-oriented Java code for test automation.

  • Write clear and effective Gherkin scenarios using Given/When/Then.

  • Implement Step Definitions in Java.

  • Write SQL and P-SQL queries.

  • Write and execute SQL queries, including SELECTs and JOINs, for test data setup and validation against Oracle and/or SQL Server databases.

  • Use Git for version control, including merging and pull requests, as part of a team.

  • Participate actively in an Agile/Scrum team and its ceremonies.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and design test cases.

  • Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, agile development environment.

  • Communicate test results, bugs, and risks to developers, BAs, and other stakeholders.

  • Apply an understanding of the secure application development lifecycle (SADLC).

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years designing and executing manual and automated test cases.

  • 5+ years analyzing requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria to design effective, reusable test cases, including positive, negative, and boundary testing.

  • 5+ years generating and documenting test plans and strategies.

  • 5+ years of API testing experience using tools such as Postman, REST Client, and others.

  • Demonstrable experience automating web applications using frameworks such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or similar.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an IT-related field.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work in person in downtown Lansing 2 days a week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience automating web applications using the Playwright for Java library.

  • Background in Selenium WebDriver.

  • Experience in financial and government domains.

  • Understanding of software testing methodologies and quality assurance processes, including Quality Assurance, User Acceptance, System Integration, Accessibility, Performance, Regression, Post Deployment Validation, and Data Conversion.

  • Experience generating testing reports and metrics.

  • Experience generating and acquiring test data.

  • Experience with ADA Compliance testing tools, such as AccVerify and JAWS.

  • Experience building DEV, UAT, QAT, and PRE-PROD specific test suites with integrated application life cycle management.

  • Experience identifying, documenting, and tracking bugs using a tool such as Azure DevOps.

  • Senior-level (3–5+ years) hands-on experience performing performance and load testing using tools such as JMeter or LoadRunner, including scripting, executing test scenarios, analyzing results, and identifying system bottlenecks.

  • Proven experience writing clean, maintainable, object-oriented Java code for test automation.

  • Experience writing Gherkin scenarios using Given/When/Then.

  • Experience implementing Step Definitions in Java.

  • Experience writing SQL and P-SQL queries.

  • Ability to write and execute SQL queries, including SELECTs and JOINs, for test data setup and validation against Oracle and/or SQL Server databases.

  • Proficiency using Git for version control, including merging and pull requests.

  • Experience working as an active participant in an Agile/Scrum team and its ceremonies.

  • Understanding of the secure application development lifecycle (SADLC).

  • Experience using the Azure DevOps Testing Module.

  • Experience with mobile application testing for iOS and Android applications.

  • Experience using Eclipse as a primary development environment.

  • Experience with the TestNG framework.

  • Additional experience with JMeter or LoadRunner, including advanced workload modeling or CI/CD-based performance automation.

  • Experience with API testing tools such as Postman, RESTAssured, or APIRequestContext.
