Job Duties
United States District Judge Jerry W. Blackwell seeks an exceptionally capable attorney to serve as a law clerk with principal responsibility for complex multidistrict litigation (MDL) proceedings, including a nationwide sugar antitrust MDL and litigation arising from an international commercial aviation accident.
The successful candidate will undertake substantive legal research, writing, and case-management assignments and collaborate closely with the Judge, the assigned Magistrate Judge's chambers, and other court personnel.
The Judge seeks an attorney with outstanding analytical and writing abilities, sound judgment, intellectual curiosity, initiative, and meticulous attention to detail. Prior experience in complex litigation is valuable but not required. Demonstrated legal ability and the capacity to master challenging issues are more important than years of practice.
Funding for position approved through September 30, 2027.
Minimum Education Required
Graduation from a law school of recognized standing, and have one or more of the following attributes:
o Standing within the upper third of the law school class from a law school on the approved list of either the American Bar Association or the Association of American Law Schools;
o Experience on the editorial board of a law review of such a school;
o Graduation from such a school with an LLM degree; or
o Demonstrated proficiency in legal studies, which in the opinion of the appointing judge is the equivalent of one of the above.
Minimum Experience Required
Prior MDL experience is desirable but not essential. The Judge places greater weight on demonstrated analytical ability, exceptional writing skills, sound judgment, and the capacity to master difficult legal issues than on any particular number of years in practice.
