Full job description

Position Overview

The HRX Project Manager serves as the strategic execution partner to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), translating HR strategy into disciplined execution and sustainable organizational outcomes.

Reporting directly to the CHRO, the role orchestrates HRX Management Operating System (MOS), provides leadership and discipline across HRX transformation initiatives, budget governance, executive planning, and enterprise change management.

The role drives alignment and follow-through and transparency without displacing functional accountability across HR Functions, HR Business Partners, Shared Solutions, Employee Experience teams, and enterprise stakeholders including TRATON and VW, to ensure HR priorities are executed with clarity.

As the connective tissue across the HR function, the HRX Strategy & Business Operations establishes governance, manages strategic initiatives, facilitates executive decision-making, and ensures organizational priorities advance from concept to implementation. This role combines project leadership, change management, executive advisory support, and operating model governance to accelerate adoption of the HRX strategy and improve the effectiveness of the HR function.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Executive Support (Chief of Staff)

  • Shape the CHRO’s strategic and operational agenda; focus leadership attention on the highest-value priorities and decisions.

  • Prepare executive meeting agendas, pre-reads, decision briefs and concise progress updates; coordinate across C-suite executives and functional partners.

  • Anticipate risks, dependencies and trade-offs; escalate exceptions with options and recommendations.

  • Ensure executive commitments are assigned, tracked and completed on time.

  • Translate HR strategy into actionable plans, milestones, and measurable outcomes.

  • Support annual strategic planning, workforce planning, HR operating plans, and transformation roadmaps.

HRX Management Operating System & Execution

  • Own the HRX MOS architecture, cadence, agendas and preparation standards for functional, operational and integrated leadership forums.

  • Maintain a single log of decisions, action items, accountable owners, due dates, risks and escalations; verify closure and outcomes.

  • Coordinate scorecards, dashboards and workstream reviews to confirm that teams are working on agreed priorities and delivering commitments.

  • Challenge unclear ownership, missed deadlines and activities that do not advance strategic or operational goals.

  • Coordinate HRX annual budget planning, monthly actual-versus-budget reviews, forecasts, commitments and variance explanations with Finance and budget owners.

  • Establish a financial MOS to review spend, purchase orders, invoices, accruals, contracts and upcoming obligations.

  • Provide visibility into discretionary versus committed spending and challenge expenditures against priorities, approvals and expected value.

  • Track financial deliverables, budget submissions, sourcing deadlines and corrective actions; escalate emerging overruns promptly.

  • Own a consolidated calendar of RFPs, sourcing milestones, contract renewals, expiration dates and vendor performance reviews.

  • Coordinate with Procurement, Finance, Legal and HRX functional owners to ensure timely approvals, compliant processes and effective vendor governance.

  • Maintain vendor and contract inventories showing owners, spend, deliverables, performance measures and key dates.

  • Improve administrative processes, documentation, controls and cross-functional responsiveness across HRX.

Program Portfolio & TRATON Coordination

  • Maintain an integrated portfolio of HRX initiatives with milestones, resources, dependencies, risks, decisions and outcomes.

  • Establish recurring workstream reviews with TRATON and Group partners, tracking joint commitments and resolving coordination gaps.

  • Facilitate prioritization and resource trade-offs while preserving accountability with designated sponsors and workstream leaders.

  • Provide the CHRO with clear, exception-based reporting on progress, delivery risks and required decisions.

HRX Transformation Leadership

  • Establish and maintain integrated project plans, milestones, risks, action items, and success measures across HR priorities.

  • Coordinate implementation activities across HR Business Integrators, Shared Solutions, HRBPs, COEs, and enterprise stakeholders.

  • Drive accountability for execution and ensure initiatives remain aligned with intended business and people outcomes.

  • Monitor transformation progress and proactively remove barriers to execution.

Executive Communications & Stakeholder Alignment

  • Develop executive communications, leadership messaging, presentations, and strategic narratives aligned to HR priorities.

  • Support communication of major organizational decisions, transformation updates, and change initiatives.

  • Ensure consistency between strategic objectives, operational execution, and stakeholder communications.

  • Drive transparency, alignment, and understanding across HR and business leadership teams.

Portfolio Management & Execution Oversight

  • Maintain visibility across the HR strategic initiative portfolio.

  • Facilitate prioritization discussions and resource alignment across competing initiatives.

  • Track delivery against commitments, milestones, success measures, and strategic outcomes.

  • Provide executive-ready reporting and recommendations to the CHRO and HR Leadership Team.

  • Ensure initiatives achieve intended business value, employee experience improvements, and organizational effectiveness outcomes.
