Job Title: Embedded Software EngineerJob Description

This mid-level Embedded Software Engineer role focuses on bare-metal and low-level driver development for a wide range of embedded systems and consumer electronics. You will contribute to multiple projects across diverse industries, using your embedded C/C++ expertise to implement wireless protocols, work directly with microcontrollers, and collaborate closely with hardware teams in a fast-paced, consulting-style environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded software in C and C++ for microcontroller-based systems, with a strong focus on bare-metal and driver-level development.

  • Perform low-level programming on microcontrollers, including ST Microelectronics ARM Cortex-M devices, working from the driver level down to hardware interfaces.

  • Implement and integrate wireless protocols and secure communications over Wi-Fi, WAN, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) as required by different projects.

  • Develop embedded RTOS application-level and middleware software to support system functionality and performance requirements.

  • Work directly with hardware teams to integrate software with embedded hardware systems, ensuring proper functionality and performance.

  • Use hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers to perform software and basic hardware debugging and troubleshoot issues.

  • Read and interpret hardware device datasheets to understand capabilities, limitations, and required configurations for microcontrollers and related components.

  • Contribute to projects involving 3G/4G modem control, device provisioning, GSM specifications, and AT modem command sets as needed.

  • Participate in test-driven development, continuous integration, and other Agile practices to improve software quality and delivery speed.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams in a consulting environment, adapting to varied project scopes and leveraging individual strengths.

  • Support multiple clients and projects, adjusting to different industries and product requirements while maintaining high coding standards.

  • Communicate clearly with team members about design decisions, technical challenges, and project status, and contribute to a collaborative, team-focused culture.

Essential Skills

  • At least 58 years of experience in embedded programming, including bare-metal and driver-level development.

  • Strong proficiency in embedded C and C++ with excellent coding skills.

  • Hands-on experience working at the driver level and below on low-level microcontrollers and micro-controls.

  • Experience in bare-metal embedded software development for consumer electronics and other embedded products.

  • Experience with protocols and secure communications over Wi-Fi, WAN, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

  • Experience developing embedded RTOS application-level and middleware software.

  • Ability to perform software and basic hardware debugging using appropriate tools and techniques.

  • Ability to read and understand hardware device datasheets and apply that knowledge to software design.

  • Comfort working directly with hardware in addition to software and willingness to get hands dirty with embedded hardware systems.

  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, diverse environments and manage multiple projects.

  • Availability to work full-time on-site in Long Island, New York.

  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to thrive in a team-focused culture that values collective success.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.

  • Development experience in embedded hardware systems involving microcontrollers, especially ARM-based devices.

  • Experience with ST Microelectronics ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers and ST Microelectronics HAL drivers is highly desired.

  • Familiarity with Linux is a plus.

  • Experience with 3G/4G modem control, device provisioning, GSM specifications, and AT modem command sets and mobile phone provisioning.

  • Familiarity with hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and similar equipment.

  • Experience with test-driven development, continuous integration, and other Agile methodologies.

  • Comfortable working in a consulting environment with exposure to multiple industries such as medical devices, aerospace, consumer products, and industrial systems.

  • US Citizenship is preferred but not required.
