Full job description
Description
Amazon Manufacturing Services (AMS) is seeking an experienced Sr. Process Engineer to join our advanced manufacturing team. In this role you will serve as a Process Engineering program lead, responsible for preparing AMS factories to build, from space planning and line layout through equipment and tool specification, work instruction development, and the quality and safety controls that keep production running. You will own process readiness for your program end to end, partnering across operations, product engineering, supply chain, quality, and EHS to stand up and continuously improve manufacturing operations at scale.
As a senior engineer, you will lead a program rather than a single workstation, typically guiding a other process engineers executing against your program's priorities. You will drive task prioritization, lead core team meetings, own metric report-outs to leadership, and resolve cross-team problems and dependencies to keep launches and ramps on track. The ideal candidate combines hands-on manufacturing process depth with the program leadership and influence needed to align multiple teams toward quality, throughput, cost, and safety targets.
Key job responsibilities
Factory Preparation & Layout — Lead space planning, line layouts, workstation design, and material flow for new lines, launches, and capacity expansions, balancing throughput, ergonomics, and footprint.
Equipment & Tool Specification — Define requirements and specifications for manufacturing equipment, tooling, and fixtures; support evaluation, selection, commissioning, and qualification at AMS sites.
Work Instruction Development (MES) — Author and maintain manufacturing work instructions, routings, and process documentation within the MES, ensuring operators have clear, controlled, and version-managed guidance.
Quality Controls & Poka-Yoke — Design and implement poka-yoke (error-proofing), process controls, inspection methods, and quality plans to ensure consistent, defect-free output across the line.
EHS Reviews & Walkthroughs — Perform EHS reviews, risk assessments, and floor walkthroughs; drive corrective actions and design safety into processes, equipment, and layouts from the start.
Process Engineering Program Leadership — Lead a manufacturing process program, setting priorities and directing the work of other process engineers dotted-line to the program; lead core team meetings and manage dependencies across functions.
Metrics & Report-Outs — Define, track, and report program metrics (throughput, cycle time, yield, safety, readiness) to leadership, and use data to drive decisions and continuous improvement.
Cross-Team Problem Solving — Serve as the integration point across operations, product engineering, supply chain, quality, and EHS, resolving manufacturing challenges and aligning teams on process requirements.
Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement — Analyze production lines to identify bottlenecks, reduce cycle time, optimize setups, and increase capacity using lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methods.
New Product & Site Introduction — Support NPI and new site/line launches, including production readiness assessments, line balancing, and ramp from prototype through volume production.
