Full job description

There was a time when all of America believed that the future of the physical world could be radically different. The engineers of the mid-1900s put a man on the moon in eight years, designed and built planes and submarines from scratch in under three, and conceived of building things we wouldn’t even be able to dream up today.

Today, the last of the engineers who imagined and built these systems are retiring. As they go, we lose not only the engineering knowledge gained from their decades of imagination and trial-and-error, but also the spirit that made that imagination possible.

Amca is working day-in and day-out to restore America’s ability to engineer anything that our critical systems depend on, and reinvigorate the cycle of creation that allows imagination to shape physical reality. We rapidly develop and manufacture new critical components and subsystems required to build and sustain the planes, military vehicles, and core infrastructure America needs. By restoring the capability of our antiquated supply chains, we increase the country’s capacity to imagine and realize new systems, and make a physical world that looks very different from today.

Overview

Amca is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Product Engineering team for the Business Operations department. You will manage and grow a team of mechanical and electrical Product Engineers who decide whether Amca's factories can build, qualify, and profitably deliver. This is an onsite position at Amca's headquarters and requires about 10% travel to our factories.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, coach, and grow a team of mechanical and electrical Product Engineers; set priorities, run 1:1s, and own performance reviews and development plans.

  • Develop systems and processes to support growth into new products and markets.

  • Review and approve your team's technical and business decisions.

  • Lead evaluation on the most complex or highest-value opportunities.

  • Attend clear-to-build reviews and weekly program calls with factory engineering, production, and supply chain teams on active projects.

  • Work closely with Product Managers so that technical and commercial judgment are closely aligned on every new project.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field.

  • 6+ years of engineering experience in defense or aerospace hardware, with at least 2 years leading engineers as a direct manager or technical lead.

  • Hands-on experience qualifying hardware to military or aerospace specifications, including writing or approving test plans and reports.

  • Working knowledge of how electromechanical, electromagnetic, hydraulic, or power-conversion components are designed and manufactured, and the ability to read and interpret drawings (GD&T), specifications, and technical data packages.

  • Experience estimating manufacturing cost, lead time, and technical risk for build-to-print or alternate-source hardware.

  • Clear written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting technical findings to non-engineers, customers, and other 3rd parties.

  • Ability to work on-site in El Segundo, CA.

  • U.S. person status (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident) as required for access to ITAR-controlled technical data.

Preferred

  • Background working with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems.

  • Familiarity with aerospace and defense supply chain processes

  • Experience building an engineering function, process, or team from an early stage.

Annual Salary Range $150,000—$190,000 USD
