Employment type: Part-time internship Term: Spring 2026 Academic Semester Reports to: Lead Scientific Advisor Schedule: Approximately 10 hours per week Location: Remote

About the role Nerveli is seeking a detail-oriented, motivated Pain Psychology & Digital Health Content Intern to help review, refine, and develop educational and behavioral intervention content for our mobile app. This is an opportunity for a student with an interest in chronic pain management, behavioral interventions, and digital health to contribute to the development of engaging, scientifically accurate, and user-friendly digital interventions, making this content available for wide scalability. The ideal candidate will have experience or a strong interest in working with individuals with chronic pain and familiarity with evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic pain (CBT-CP), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), or mindfulness-based pain management. Candidates with relevant medical, physical therapy, rehabilitation, or other clinical training will also be considered. Working closely with the Nerveli team, the intern will help ensure that app content is accurate, clinically appropriate, accessible, engaging, and consistent with evidence-based pain management principles.

Responsibilities

  • Content review and refinement: Review existing Nerveli app content for scientific accuracy, clinical appropriateness, clarity, readability, and consistency with evidence-based chronic pain management principles.
  • Evidence-based content development: Assist with creating and refining educational materials, therapeutic exercises, coping strategies, and other digital intervention content informed by CBT, ACT, mindfulness, and related approaches.
  • User experience and engagement: Provide feedback on content presentation, visual design, instructions, and interactive elements to support usability, accessibility, and engagement within a mobile app.
  • Behavior change and digital health: Contribute ideas for translating evidence-based behavioral strategies into practical, engaging mobile experiences that support skill development and sustained behavior change.
  • Research and product development: Participate in research activities, content testing, and beta testing of new app features, as appropriate.
  • Quality assurance: Help identify inconsistencies, errors, and opportunities to improve the accuracy, organization, and overall quality of app content.

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student (preferred) in psychology, clinical psychology, behavioral science, neuroscience, public health, health sciences, physical therapy, medicine, or a related field.
  • Experience working with, conducting research on, or a strong demonstrated interest in chronic pain and pain management.
  • Familiarity with at least one evidence-based approach to chronic pain management, such as CBT for pain, ACT, or mindfulness-based interventions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to review content critically, incorporate feedback, and work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Interest in digital health, mobile applications, behavioral intervention design, or technology-enabled health behavior change.
  • Candidates with clinical training or expertise in medicine, physical therapy, rehabilitation, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Helpful, but not required

  • Experience working directly with patients with chronic pain.

What you will gain

  • Research opportunities: Depending on project involvement and contributions, the intern may have opportunities to participate in research projects and contribute to conference abstracts, presentations, and scientific publications.

Success in this role We are looking for someone who is curious about how evidence-based pain management strategies can be translated into engaging, practical digital tools. The ideal candidate combines scientific curiosity with careful attention to detail, enjoys improving written and interactive content, and is excited to contribute to technology that can make a meaningful difference in the lives of people living with chronic pain.

How to apply Please submit a résumé or CV and a brief statement describing your interest in chronic pain management, relevant clinical or research experience, and interest in digital health. Applicants may also include examples of relevant writing, research, or content development experience. Nerveli is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants with varied backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
