Maui Nursery Sub Hub Lead

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This role is responsible for leading Bayer’s crop production team, accelerating the production and advancement of materials through the R&D pipeline. They will also fill the roles of Visionary, Architect, Catalyst, and Coach for the operational sub-unit, outcome-focused teams at the site to achieve the team’s mission and outcomes linked to customers and products.

The primary responsibilities of this role, Maui Nursery Sub Hub Lead, are to:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leveraging VACC principles, lead a team of operations guides, operations associates, nursery managers, and nursery technicians responsible for safe, compliant and highly efficient operations including planning, logistics, data collection and analysis, crop management, nursery design and execution, and communication to pipeline and project stakeholders;

  • Responsible for the execution of a broad range of nursery workflows supporting multiple stages of the product development cycle for breeding;

  • Defines operational capacity to optimize production efficiency and communicates supply parameters to work leaders and stakeholders across Breeding;

  • Responsible for quality and regulatory compliance strategy to meet business needs and anticipate needs in response to pipeline strategy shifts;

  • Oversee team providing technical guidance to meet site productivity metrics while enabling the highest levels of Environmental Safety and Health (HSE), Regulatory and Quality performance aligned with best practices;

  • Create a culture of continuous improvement focused on innovation, cost efficiency, product delivery speed and quality of product delivered;

  • Collaborates with stakeholder groups to conceive, design, and put into production innovations that bring new technologies or insights to inefficient processes such as digital data collection tools, equipment automation, or process efficiencies that create a step change in product delivery within R&D;

  • Partners with the Hawaii Business Support Lead on maintaining and forecasting of the budget and keeping spend on target to meet overall corporate and company financial targets and internal controls including the spend and tracking of multi-million-dollar assets and capital projects;

  • Oversees the recruiting, training, development, and retention of personnel within the Maui nursery team leveraging DSO principles;

  • Provides leadership within Hawaii region around best practices that will drive achievement of pipeline delivery goals while maintaining the company’s License to Operate (LTO);

  • Coordinates and leads activities within the surrounding community to ensure positive community relations and outreach efforts;

  • Position entails driving a company vehicle (pooled or assigned to the individual). This may include being required to drive greater than 5,000 business miles annually in a personal, pooled, or rented vehicle OR being expected to frequently drive a pooled car as part of your job duties – regardless of mileage.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, or related area;

  • Prior relevant experience in agriculture, research and development, operations management or related area;

  • Valid Driver’s License. In order to be eligible to drive a company car, your driving record must meet guidelines based on the company s Risk Screening for Hiring Drivers MVR will be reviewed as part of pre-employment screening;

  • Demonstration of VACC leadership principles: visionary, architect, catalyst and coach;

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills including influencing, coaching, facilitation, conflict resolution, and relationship management;

  • Ability to manage change and prioritize as necessary to meet business and/or customer deadlines;

  • Results oriented with the ability to make effective decisions after careful consideration of various courses of action and impact on various individuals and/or groups;

  • Strong analytical skills;

  • Advanced understanding and passion for emerging trends in agriculture;

  • Experience with both standard MS Office computer and software systems used in scientific data analysis, with ability to quickly learn new software programs and tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, or related area with minimum of 8 years relevant experience in agriculture, research and development, operations management or related area. MS with minimum of 12 years relevant experience or BS with minimum of 14 years relevant experience will also be considered.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $154,320.00 - $231,480.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors. This posting will be available for application until at least 10/19/26.

Domestic relocation may be provided to this role.
