Job Description: Insight Global is seeking a Design Manager for a top data center and mission-critical infrastructure client in Avondale, Arizona. This individual will serve as the key onsite design resource supporting large-scale, ground-up construction and will bridge the gap between engineering, construction, procurement, and external design partners. The Design Manager will review RFIs and submittals, interpret drawings and specifications, assess code and design issues, and provide technically sound direction in the field. The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of engineering/design and construction experience, understands complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure, and has the confidence to independently evaluate issues rather than simply coordinate them. This is a highly visible, hands-on opportunity supporting active construction as well as future buildings entering the bid phase.

Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering

  • 10+ years of experience across design management, engineering, architecture, and/or construction projects o Strong ground-up construction experience o Experience in mission-critical, data center, industrial manufacturing, or similarly complex facilities o Technical understanding of major building infrastructure such as chillers, generators, transformers, MEP systems, and controls o Strong knowledge of applicable building codes, regulations, specifications, and safety standards o Ability to independently read and interpret drawings and specifications o Experience reviewing and evaluating RFIs and submittals

  • Ability to identify design/code conflicts and confidently determine when an issue can be resolved onsite versus escalated to the Engineer of Record

  • Able and willing to be hands-on in the field, walk active construction areas, investigate issues, and make technically informed decisions Plusses:

  • Arizona Professional Engineer (PE) license

  • Mechanical PE particularly preferred

  • Previous data center experience

  • Experience with greenfield/ground-up mission-critical construction

  • Experience coordinating across MEP, architecture, controls, construction, procurement, and external engineering firms

  • Additional engineering licenses/certifications across relevant disciplines

Compensation: $50/hr to $75/hr. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
