Position Overview

The Afterschool Facilitator delivers engaging, developmentally appropriate programming for a group of elementary-aged students in the school's afterschool program. Working under the supervision of the Principal, the Facilitator creates a welcoming and inclusive environment that supports homework completion, enrichment, recreation, and positive youth development. The Facilitator works to ensure that all students, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities, are able to participate fully in all aspects of the program.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging daily programming, including homework support, enrichment, recreation, and youth development activities.

  • Provide active supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of students during all program activities, transitions, and dismissal.

  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that supports the participation and success of all students, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities.

  • Build positive relationships with students and use positive strategies to support student engagement and social-emotional development.

  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student participation and program activities.

  • Collaborate with other afterschool staff to support high-quality programming.

  • Maintain attendance and complete required program documentation and reporting.

  • Prepare, maintain, and restore classrooms and shared spaces used during the afterschool program.

  • Participate in required orientation, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications – Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Forty-eight (48) credit hours of college coursework or an Associate's Degree, or a passing score on one of the following formalized standardized assessments:

  • ParaPro Assessment; or

  • ACT WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants.

  • Minimum of two years of experience working with school-age children in an afterschool, summer, educational, recreation, or youth development setting.

  • Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

Qualifications – Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, child development, youth development, recreation, human services, or a related field.

  • Experience planning and facilitating enrichment or youth development activities for school-age children.

  • Experience supporting students with disabilities in inclusive educational or youth development settings.

  • Experience working with multilingual learners and families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

  • Experience working in a Boston Public Schools setting, particularly at the school where the position is located.

  • Familiarity with the students, families, and school community served by the program.

  • Proficiency in [language(s)] .

Terms:

Part-time, approximately 12 hours per week during the school year, from school dismissal until 4:30pm. Additional hours for required meetings, training, and professional development may be required.

Pay Rate: $27/hour
