About the Role Scale Justice is seeking an experienced, mission-driven Head of Product to lead product strategy and execution for two transformative initiatives while helping build our broader product practice and team:

  • ReclamoAI, a multilingual AI assistant that helps workers understand their rights, document workplace violations, and pursue stolen wages.
  • LawHelpNY Connect, a next-generation legal help referral product that helps people facing civil legal problems connect to the right services and resources.

During the first one to two years, approximately 80% of this role will focus on advancing these strategic initiatives, while the remaining time will be dedicated to growing a strong, effective product function and helping shape product strategy across the organization. This role is ideal for a product leader who combines strong product vision, technical fluency, an empathetic and collaborative leadership style, and a commitment to social impact and access to justice. This position reports to the Executive Director. This is a grant-funded position with an initial term of approximately three years. We intend to pursue continued funding, though continuation beyond the grant period cannot be guaranteed. What You'll Do Lead High-Impact Products

  • Define and drive the product vision, strategy, and roadmaps for Reclamo AI and LawHelpNY Connect as well as products across the organization.
  • Lead product discovery and scoping, evaluating user needs, market value, technical feasibility, and sustainability to inform product strategy and investment decisions.
  • Develop and drive roadmaps that translate product strategy into prioritized delivery plans aligned with organizational goals, resources, and budget.
  • Establish and lead practical Agile delivery practices with engineering, design, and program teams, including backlog prioritization, sprint or iteration planning, clear acceptance criteria, release planning, and retrospectives. Adapt these practices to team capacity, partner workflows, and findings from user research.
  • Partner with technical leadership to ensure products are secure, scalable, maintainable, and responsive to evolving needs.
  • Represent Scale Justice's products and product vision to strategic partners, funders, and external audiences.
  • Foster a culture of user-centered design and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Ensure products are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of underserved communities.
  • Partner with program and technical leaders to shape responsible AI strategies, evaluating where AI can improve outcomes and where human judgment or non-AI approaches are more effective.
  • Ensure AI-enabled features are reliable, transparent, and aligned with Scale Justice's values and mission.

Grow Scale Justice's Product and Innovation Functions

  • Supervise and mentor product managers and emerging product leaders.
  • Strengthen product management processes, frameworks, and operating practices to balance community needs, sustainability, and scale.
  • Evaluate product-market fit and recommend enhancements, pivots, or investments based on user research, performance data, and changing conditions.
  • Assist with assessing and scoping emerging opportunities for growth, innovation, and impact.
  • Collaborate with program leads on revenue planning, forecasting and go-to-market strategies for key product lines.
  • Own department budget and oversee external product contractors.
  • Stay informed on advances in AI, legal innovation, civic tech, and SaaS product development, helping translate emerging trends into organizational learning and product strategy.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • 7+ years of product management experience in civic tech, legal tech, or a related field. Experience building and scaling consumer-facing SaaS products preferred.
  • 3+ years experience supervising product staff, designers, or cross-functional teams; skilled in coaching and developing product talent.
  • Strong technical fluency and demonstrated success partnering with engineering, design, and content teams.
  • Demonstrated experience applying Agile and iterative product development approaches, such as Scrum or Kanban, to deliver and improve digital products. Skilled at breaking complex initiatives into testable releases, managing dependencies, and adjusting priorities based on evidence and feedback.
  • Experience developing or managing products that incorporate guided interviews, legal forms, referral systems, or other legal and social service delivery workflows.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust and alignment across diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Humility and skill in working with non-technical stakeholders and learning from their expertise.
  • Experience with AI-enabled products, with demonstrated judgment in applying AI responsibly, effectively, and in ways that improve user outcomes.
  • Positive, solution-focused leadership style, with the ability to manage change and lead complex, strategic initiatives from concept through implementation.
  • Experience leading participatory design or co-design methodologies.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, vendor relationships, and technical collaborators across complex product initiatives
  • Demonstrated commitment to social impact and the responsible use of technology.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% annually for convenings, events and field partner visits
