Job Description

The Senior Accounting & Budget Analyst is responsible for leading advanced financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, reconciliations, compliance, and long-term financial planning. This role serves as a key advisor to leadership by providing strategic financial insights, developing detailed financial analyses, and supporting data-driven decision-making. The Senior Accounting & Budget Analyst oversees the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget, assists with Board and executive-level financial reporting, manages audit and compliance activities, and ensures effective stewardship of restricted funds, grants, debt obligations, and capital resources. The position also plays a critical role in financial system enhancements, internal control improvements, bond and mill levy financial planning, and process improvement initiatives. Additionally, this individual provides training and mentorship to staff while helping strengthen financial operations across the organization.

Skills and Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting, budgeting, financial analysis, or related finance functions Experience leading budget development, forecasting, and financial reporting processes Strong understanding of GAAP, financial compliance, and internal controls Advanced experience with financial analysis, account reconciliations, and variance reporting Experience supporting audits and regulatory compliance requirements Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial management systems Ability to communicate complex financial information to leadership and stakeholders Experience developing financial forecasts and strategic recommendations Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field Public sector, municipal government, or educational finance experience School district finance and budget management experience Experience managing grants, restricted funds, food service funds, or student activity funds Experience preparing Board of Education or executive-level financial presentations Knowledge of bond issuances, debt management, and mill levy elections Experience with long-term capital planning and resource allocation strategies Experience leading process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives Experience overseeing financial system upgrades, testing, and implementations CPA, CMA, CPFO, SFO, PMP, or other relevant professional certification Experience training, mentoring, or leading finance staff
