Full job description

Description We are looking for an experienced Accountant to support healthcare finance operations in Rancho Cordova, California. This is a Contract position focused on delivering accurate monthly close activities, maintaining strong general ledger integrity, and producing dependable financial reporting in a regulated environment. The role works closely with operational and finance leaders to resolve accounting issues, improve processes, and ensure timely completion of assigned hospital and corporate reporting needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and record journal entries for the monthly close process, ensuring transactions are accurate, timely, and aligned with GAAP and organizational accounting standards.

  • Complete detailed balance sheet reconciliations and account analyses, investigating variances and resolving discrepancies with minimal oversight.

  • Manage the financial close for assigned hospital operations, including accruals, fluctuation review, coordination with facility contacts, and delivery of final reports.

  • Produce recurring and ad hoc financial reports using accounting systems and spreadsheet tools to support internal management and external reporting needs.

  • Compile and present complex financial data for audits, regulatory submissions, and other formal reporting requirements.

  • Partner with supervisors, managers, directors, and administrative teams to identify accounting issues, recommend practical solutions, and monitor results after implementation.

  • Prioritize workload independently to meet reporting deadlines while maintaining quality and consistency across general ledger activities.

  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment by sharing guidance, supporting peers, and promoting effective accounting practices.

  • Evaluate current workflows and recommend improvements that enhance efficiency, strengthen analytical review, and better support customer and stakeholder needs.

  • Travel occasionally during standard business hours to supported facilities when business needs require onsite coordination. Requirements • Minimum of 5 years of accounting or finance experience, with healthcare or hospital finance experience strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; additional relevant experience may be considered in place of formal education where applicable.

  • Degree concentration in Accounting or Finance preferred.

  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, core accounting principles, and financial statement analysis.

  • Demonstrated experience with month-end close, journal entry preparation, general ledger activity, and account reconciliation.

  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to review financial information, identify issues, and recommend effective solutions.

  • Proficiency with Excel and general ledger or financial systems, such as Lawson or comparable enterprise accounting platforms.

  • Ability to work independently, communicate proactively with leadership, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
