Summary

At Apple, we believe excellent ideas have a way of becoming extraordinary products with unique customer experiences at the highest quality. We believe when you bring passion and dedication to your job, there's no telling what you could accomplish! The people here at Apple don't just build products. They craft the kind of wonder that's revolutionized entire industries.

The Media Graphics and Compute Technologies team is looking for a self-motivated Tools and Automation Engineer who combines QE leadership with strong software engineering skills to help shape our next generation products. This role requires an energetic and motivated individual with strong communication, organization, and technical skills who works well in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

Description

The Media Graphics and Compute Technologies organization is seeking an expert, self-motivated Tools and Automation Engineer with a real passion for making the GPU and Developer experience on our products the best it can be. You will work with emerging GPU technologies at Apple, ensuring that we successfully bring these technologies to our customers at the industry-leading bar we've established.

In this role, you will wear multiple hats: leading QE strategy for GPU Drivers, engineering the automation frameworks and tools that make testing scalable, and partnering with engineering teams to support both new HW and SW features. You will be responsible for:

  • Quality Leadership: Drive effective QA conversations with cross-functional teams to define test strategy, test plans, and quality goals for GPU Drivers. Act as a quality warrior, championing excellence throughout the development lifecycle.

*Tools and Automation Engineering: Design, build, and maintain the automation frameworks, tools, and infrastructure that enable scalable, reliable testing. Develop sophisticated automation to support both new HW and SW features.

  • Strategic Testing: Design and drive presubmission testing for GPU Drivers, ensuring critical issues are caught before integration. Balance manual exploratory testing with automated coverage.

*Innovation: Be proactive in developing AI-enabled tools and novel approaches to validate the software components that make up the GPU driver stack. Think creatively about how to expand coverage and improve automation effectiveness.

As a successful candidate, you should have a strong aptitude for learning new technologies, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to drive sophisticated and challenging projects. You should be equally comfortable setting quality direction with stakeholders as you are writing code to build tools and automate complex scenarios.

Strong collaboration with engineering teams and an ability to thrive under pressure are key skills required to succeed in this role.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

  • Demonstrated ability in software development with a focus on tools and test automation

  • Proven experience in both QE methodology and test automation development

  • Strong experience developing test plans, test cases, and test strategies for complex software systems

  • Experience leading quality efforts and influencing cross-functional teams

  • Proficiency with Unix-based operating systems (e.g., Linux, macOS) and command-line interface (CLI) tools

  • Experience in Python; Swift is a plus

  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical skills

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams

  • Knowledge of fundamental data structures, algorithms, and software design principles

  • Familiarity with the complete software development life cycle (SDLC), including requirements, design, development, testing, and deployment

  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with GPU technologies, graphics and compute APIs (e.g., Vulkan, DirectX), or GPU driver development/testing

  • Proven experience in developing and maintaining QE infrastructure and automation frameworks

  • Background in developing custom tools and frameworks from scratch

  • Experience with C/C++ programming

  • Experience with CI/CD systems and build and test infrastructure

  • Experience with white-box testing methodologies and code coverage analysis

  • Knowledge of AI/ML techniques and their application to software testing and tooling

  • Experience with system-level debugging and performance analysis tools

  • Understanding of computer architecture and low-level hardware interaction
