Job Description

The Senior Snowflake Platform Engineer will provide hands-on technical leadership for the administration, reliability, security, performance, and cost optimization of the enterprise Snowflake platform. This role will partner with Data Engineering, Architecture, Security, and business teams to ensure a secure, scalable, and efficient data platform that supports critical enterprise workloads. The ideal candidate has deep, practical Snowflake administration experience, strong SQL and performance-tuning skills, and the ability to independently troubleshoot complex production issues and implement platform improvements.

Key Responsibilities Own day-to-day Snowflake platform administration, including user and role management, access controls, warehouse configuration, resource monitoring, and operational support. Analyze and optimize query performance, warehouse utilization, concurrency, and compute costs using Snowflake monitoring and account usage capabilities. Implement and maintain role-based access control (RBAC), least-privilege access, service accounts, authentication integrations, and data protection controls. Establish platform standards for warehouse sizing, auto-suspend and auto-resume, resource monitors, workload isolation, and cost management. Monitor platform health, investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventative measures to improve reliability. Manage database objects and platform hygiene, including schemas, tables, views, retention settings, and obsolete resource cleanup. Support data integration and connectivity with AWS services, including S3, IAM, and relevant data ingestion and processing tools. Automate administrative tasks and operational processes using SQL, Python, scripting, and APIs. Develop operational dashboards, documentation, and procedures for platform monitoring, incident response, access reviews, and cost reporting. Collaborate with engineering teams on platform architecture, upgrades, new capabilities, and enterprise data initiatives.

Skills and Requirements

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience administering and supporting Snowflake in a production enterprise environment.
  • Advanced SQL expertise with a proven ability to troubleshoot, tune, and resolve complex query performance and production issues.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and managing Snowflake security, including RBAC, role hierarchies, grants, access controls, and secure data access patterns.
  • Strong background in warehouse sizing, workload management, cost monitoring, compute optimization, platform reliability, and production support.
  • Solid understanding of database administration, data governance, and enterprise security best practices, with the ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and maintain clear technical documentation.
  • Experience integrating Snowflake with AWS services (S3, IAM, Glue) and enterprise data pipelines, along with Python or shell scripting for platform automation and administration.
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake monitoring, security, and infrastructure management, including resource monitors, ACCOUNT_USAGE/ORGANIZATION_USAGE views, query analysis, masking policies, row access policies, network policies, authentication integrations, and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience managing enterprise-scale Snowflake environments, including workload management, multi-cluster warehouses, replication, failover, and business continuity, preferably within a regulated industry such as financial services, and complemented by SnowPro Core or Advanced certification.
