Purpose:

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for independently leading and managing complex environmental projects from initiation through completion, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. This position provides senior-level project and technical leadership while maintaining accountability for project scope, financial performance, quality, regulatory compliance, and client satisfaction.

The Senior Project Manager serves as a primary point of contact for clients and works closely with regulatory agencies, multidisciplinary technical teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality technical work products and effective environmental solutions. This position also plays a key role in business development, proposal development, client relationship management, staff mentorship, and program growth.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned projects and maintain regular communication and coordination with clients, customers, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.

  • Independently lead and manage complex environmental projects from initiation through completion, maintaining accountability for scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and client satisfaction.

  • Lead the development of work plans, technical reports, and other project deliverables associated with the sampling, analysis, and reporting of contaminants and geochemical indicators across multiple environmental media.

  • Plan, direct, and oversee environmental investigations, remediation activities, monitoring programs, and other field operations.

  • Supervise and delegate technical tasks to project team members, including preparation of technical documentation, and ensure deliverables meet applicable quality, regulatory, contractual, and client requirements.

  • Manage project budgets, schedules, resources, and deliverables to ensure successful execution and achievement of established financial and operational objectives.

  • Ensure project and field activities are conducted in accordance with corporate, contractual, and project-specific health and safety requirements.

  • Provide technical review and quality oversight for work plans, reports, and other project deliverables.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and subject matter experts to successfully execute environmental projects for federal, state, and commercial clients.

  • Apply knowledge of applicable environmental laws, regulations, standards, and guidance to project planning, execution, and decision-making.

  • Evaluate project data and complex technical information to support informed technical, project, and business decisions.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, project partners, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.

  • Lead and support business development initiatives, including identifying opportunities, developing client relationships, preparing proposals, supporting client acquisition, and contributing to program growth.

  • Support proposal development through technical input, project scoping, cost and schedule development, and preparation or review of technical approaches.

  • Mentor and develop project managers and technical staff, promoting knowledge sharing, collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.

  • Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment that supports achievement of project and business objectives.

  • Manage multiple complex projects and competing priorities in a dynamic environment while maintaining high standards for quality, accuracy, and client service.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Required Qualifications:

  • Fifteen (15)+ years of project management experience in environmental consulting, remediation, or a similar setting.

  • Demonstrated experience independently managing complex environmental projects with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and client relationships.

  • Experience working on environmental projects in Alaska.

  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to develop and review clear, concise, and accurate project documentation.

  • Proven leadership skills with experience leading multidisciplinary project teams, supervising technical work, and effectively delegating responsibilities.

  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to evaluate data, synthesize complex information, and make informed technical and business decisions.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build trust and maintain effective working relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, team members, and other stakeholders.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and subject matter experts.

  • Demonstrated commitment to mentoring, knowledge sharing, and the professional development of team members.

  • Experience supporting business development, proposal preparation, client acquisition, or program growth.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other standard business and project management software.

  • Experience with one or more of the following preferred: Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) Contaminated Sites Program, ADEC Solid Waste Program, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
