Adecco Healthcare & Life Sciences is hiring a Medical Services Assistant for a healthcare organization in Newark, NJ. The Medical Services Assistant will work with patients across a broad range of age groups and clinical needs. The position requires professionalism, confidentiality, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Position Overview
The Medical Services Assistant (MSA) provides clinical and administrative support to physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team. The MSA assists with patient care, clinical procedures, patient flow, and daily clinic operations while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety, quality, and confidentiality.
This position requires hands-on clinical experience and the ability to perform tasks such as phlebotomy, vital signs, specimen collection, and intramuscular and subcutaneous injections under the direction of a physician and in accordance with applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities

Assist physicians, nurses, and healthcare providers with patient care and clinical procedures.

Obtain and document patient vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations, height, and weight.
-
Perform phlebotomy and collect, label, document, and transport patient specimens.
-
Administer approved medications and vaccinations through intramuscular and subcutaneous injections as permitted by state regulations.
-
Perform patient screenings and report abnormal findings or changes in patient condition to the appropriate provider.
-
Assist with examinations and procedures, including patient preparation, positioning, equipment, and supplies.
-
Perform medication and chart reviews prior to patient visits as needed.
-
Maintain proper infection control and aseptic techniques.
-
Perform waived laboratory testing and maintain required quality control documentation.
-
Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
-
Assist with patient transfers and mobility using appropriate safety and body mechanics.
-
Maintain examination rooms, equipment, medications, supplies, and clinic areas.
-
Support efficient patient flow and communicate patient needs or delays to the healthcare team.
-
Schedule patient appointments and coordinate outside physician, hospital, and ancillary services.
-
Answer phones, take messages, and communicate information to appropriate staff.
-
Verify insurance benefits and obtain precertification when necessary.
-
Maintain patient records, logs, forms, and other required documentation.
-
Enter clinical and patient information into electronic systems and databases.
-
Provide patients with health information and educational materials as directed.
-
Assist with quality improvement and compliance activities.
-
Serve as a resource and provide guidance to other Medical Assistants when needed.
-
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
-
Completion of a post-secondary Medical Assisting program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Current certification/registration through AAMA, AMT, NCCT, or another recognized certifying organization.

Minimum 1 year of related medical office experience preferred.

Demonstrated competency performing intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
-
Phlebotomy experience.
-
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
-
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
-
Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
-
Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
-
Knowledge of the Newark community preferred.
-
NJDHSS HIV Counselor certification strongly preferred.
Pay Details: $25.00 per hour
