Posting Description
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM OFFICER (EMP), Environment, Health & Safety Office (EHS), provides expert advice to support Institute academic and business objectives considering environmental regulations, occupational health laws, federal and state regulations, and best practices; provides technical support to all EHS program areas and assists the Associate Director in program management.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Bachelors degree in an environment, health and safety related discipline; a minimum of four years of relevant experience in environment, health and safety programs and recognition, evaluation and control of hazardous materials and conditions, and physical agents; expertise in environment, health and safety with a working knowledge of regulations specific to federal, state, local and consensus standards including specific expertise in at least some and a general knowledge of most of the following: NRC, OSHA, US EPA, DOT, Massachusetts DPH and MassDEP, Massachusetts Fire Prevention Regulations, Massachusetts Building Code, NFPA Codes, OSHA Regulations, NIH and CDC Guidelines, Federal Select Agent and Toxin regulations, and Cambridge Municipal Code; ability to develop and implement EHS programs; effective communication, active listening, computer and database skills; ability to influence and collaborate with others and manage and prioritize multiple projects; bias for action; strategic thinking; and organizational and cultural awareness. PREFERRED: Experience with environmental regulations as issued by US EPA, MassDEP; masters degree; or certification in EHS discipline, such as CHMM.
Will participate in on-call rotational system providing routine and off-hours support when necessary to resolve emergency EHS issues and serve as specialist to emergency response groups.
First 6 months are in person 5 days/week. The EMP program works on site 2 days/week and additional days as needed for meetings and projects.9/28/2026
