The Justice Involved Veterans Coordinator provides leadership for the implementation and expansion of Veteran Treatment Courts (VTCs) across South Carolina, including courts funded and unfunded by the South Carolina Department of Veterans' Affairs (SCDVA). This position serves as the primary advocate for Justice Involved Veterans, acting as a liaison between federal, state, and community partners to ensure Veterans have access to services and support while in the program and after successful completion of the program. The coordinator identifies barriers, recommends legislation, and strengthens inter-agency collaboration to improve outcomes for Justice-Involved Veterans. The coordinator works with Veteran Treatment Court Coordinators to assist with services for participants, records progress of participants and outcomes. This role provides direct outreach and assistance to inform the community on the benefits of Veteran Treatment Courts for Justice Involved Veterans. This includes outreach to detention centers to identify eligible Veterans and informing Veteran Treatment Court Coordinators of eligible Veterans for their program.

Responsibilities of the Veteran Treatment Court Coordinator:• In coordination with SCDVA leadership, address constituent issues raised by state legislators, the Governor's office, and Congressional representatives. Serve as liaison and advocate for Justice-Involved Veterans with SCDVA, US Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA), and the South Carolina State Treatment Coordinator. Build and maintain a strong working relationship with federal, state, local, nonprofit, and private-sector partners providing services to Justice-Involved Veterans and their families. Become the subject-matter expert on all South Carolina programs supporting Justice-Involved Veterans and lead efforts to expand Veterans Treatment Courts across all circuits and counties. Learn, input, and manage the assigned referral and Performance Management Tool system to support VTC expansion and data tracking.

  • Coordinates Justice Involved Veterans activities statewide and maintain open communication with Division of Workforce Enhancement Staff. Collaborate with the Grant Coordinator to maximize funding opportunities and ensure compliance with grant requirements. Establish and lead a Justice-Involved Veterans Working Group that meets quarterly and contributes to statewide initiatives related to Veteran health, employment, education, and training. Develop data-driven insights and integrate results into action plans aligned with the SCDVA Strategic Plan.

  • Understands and apply the SCDVA Strategic Operational Framework, ensuring Justice-Involved Veterans issues are accurately represented across Strategic Objectives. Provide timely data and updates for monthly Action Plan submissions to the Secretary. Actively participate in departmental working groups, including the Workforce Enhancement Group, End Homelessness Working Group, and Health Promotion Working Group.

  • Conducts monthly visits with VTC staff and attend court sessions within Solicitor Circuits funded by SCDVA. Ensure Veterans Treatment Courts comply with grant requirements, program manuals, and reporting standards. Work closely with the Department Grant Manager to maintain compliance with all funding sources.

  • Complete quarterly and annual performance reports as required. Report directly to the Deputy Director of Workforce Enhancement, providing updates, feedback, and recommendations. Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission of SCDVA. Uses the South Carolina Veteran Coalition to enter all participants and record progress.

Bachelor's degree in a field related to criminal justice programs of either Police Administration, Operations, Corrections, Political Science, or Social Work, and 5 years serving as a Justice Involved Veteran advocate OR 10 years of experience working in the justice system and familiarity with Veteran's Treatment Courts OR 20 years of experience in law enforcement, corrections, or social work.
