Full job description

We are currently looking for a SQL Development / Data Analysis Team Lead for a 100% remote position supporting a large federal government healthcare modernization project. This role will support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) by leading a team responsible for SQL development, clinical data analysis, reporting, and data quality monitoring in support of electronic health record (EHR) modernization initiatives. The Team Lead will provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise in SQL Server, data migration, data integration, and business intelligence reporting while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of healthcare data. The position operates within a remote, multidisciplinary Agile environment, collaborating with SQL developers, data analysts, data engineers, quality assurance personnel, program leadership, and federal stakeholders. The Team Lead will oversee technical deliverables, establish development standards, mentor team members, and coordinate data validation and reporting activities while supporting continuous improvement and responsible adoption of AI-assisted development tools. The candidate must reside within the continental US. Responsibilities: Lead and mentor a team of SQL developers and data analysts, assigning tasks, establishing priorities, monitoring deliverables, conducting technical reviews, and supporting team development, onboarding, and performance improvement. Provide hands-on technical leadership in developing, reviewing, and optimizing advanced SQL queries, scripts, and transformation logic within SQL Server environments, establishing coding standards, peer review practices, and database performance optimization guidelines. Oversee healthcare data analysis, integration, and migration activities, including evaluating data flows, source-to-target mappings, conceptual and physical data models, and data warehouse structures to support EHR modernization objectives. Direct data quality monitoring, validation, and reconciliation activities to ensure the completeness, accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of clinical datasets, leading root cause investigations and coordinating corrective actions with development and QA teams. Serve as the primary technical point of contact for program leadership and VA stakeholders, coordinating data review sessions, communicating technical findings, managing risks, and reviewing reports, dashboards, and recurring program deliverables prior to release. Establish and maintain technical documentation and development practices, including data dictionaries, runbooks, validation protocols, Agile workflows, and responsible AI-assisted development standards for SQL optimization, data analysis, automated validation, and documentation. Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and ensure the success of the project. Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or another engineering or technical discipline, or eight (8) years of additional relevant experience in lieu of a degree, with a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Extensive hands-on experience developing, reviewing, and optimizing advanced SQL queries, scripts, and data transformation processes using Microsoft SQL Server, including working with large, complex datasets and applying indexing, normalization, and performance tuning techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or serving as a technical lead for SQL development, data analysis, or data engineering teams, including assigning work, establishing technical standards, reviewing deliverables, and providing technical guidance.
  • Strong experience analyzing healthcare or clinical datasets, including familiarity with HL7, FHIR, or VistA, data migration and validation processes, relational database structures, and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to investigate complex data discrepancies, assess technical risks, and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor technical personnel, manage competing priorities, and communicate complex technical findings to technical teams, non-technical stakeholders, and program leadership.

Additional Qualifications: Previous experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare data systems, including VX130, Oracle Health Millennium, or the Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW), with familiarity in InterSystems IRIS, Caché, mirrored database architectures, EHR data migration, cutover verification, and healthcare data governance practices. Experience leading technical teams within Agile development environments using JIRA, Azure DevOps, or similar tools, including sprint planning, backlog management, peer code reviews, technical documentation, metadata management, and coordination of data quality and reporting deliverables. Experience implementing and overseeing AI-assisted development practices using tools such as GitHub Copilot to optimize SQL queries, automate data validation and reconciliation, analyze trends, and maintain technical documentation, including establishing review standards, validating AI-generated outputs, protecting PHI/PII, and ensuring compliance with federal responsible AI guidance. Security Clearance Requirements: U.S. Citizenship is required. All selected candidates must successfully complete a background check. Ability to obtain and maintain a Government/Public Trust clearance, including required fingerprinting, when required for the position. Benefits:
