Full job description

Description

Amazon seeks exceptional leaders for a strategic senior management position overseeing our data center operations. This executive role offers significant visibility within the organization and aligns with our mission of becoming the world's most customer-centric company.

As a Cluster Leader, you will lead department heads responsible for data center infrastructure, ensure operational integrity of large-scale network and server systems, drive innovation that benefits our customers, and maintain Amazon's high standards for operational excellence.

The ideal candidate combines strategic planning with operational expertise. At Amazon, we value leaders who demonstrate both business unit management skills and the ability to lead large teams effectively. You must be ready to engage directly in operations when needed.

If you are passionate about Customer Experience, think and act globally and want to contribute to the operational excellence of Amazon.com data centers. This may be the challenge you’ve been looking for!

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Effective May 15, 2017, logical access to the AWS GovCloud region will be restricted to Amazon employees who are U.S. Citizens. (GovCloud may NOT be accessed from outside of the United States)

Key job responsibilities

Lead and supervise a team of Data Center Managers (~ 6 direct reports, ~40 exempt leaders) and 350-400 hourly builders within Regional Data Centers.

Attainment of organizational performance goals and objectives relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency in support of our data center operations.

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.

Accountability for meeting and exceeding operational goals.

Strategic planning and forecasting; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; resolve problems; and address staffing needs.

Obsess over team learning and development, both from a technical/functional and soft skills (critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and adaptability) development perspective including mentoring and training.

Develop, improve, and share operational best practices across the globe.

Hiring, managing, and developing the operations management team including data center managers and data center operations technicians. Planning and executing the Infrastructure Operations component of new AWS data center buildouts, new colocation buildouts, AWS data center expansions, and colocation expansions, including the network and server rack infrastructure to facilitate the daily operations.
