Full job description

Description

Are you energized by building strategies that shape how millions of customers discover and purchase products? As a Category Merchant Manager III at Amazon, you will own a significant portion of a category's performance, combining analytical rigor with creative problem-solving to drive meaningful business growth. In this role, you will develop and execute category strategies, manage vendor and seller relationships, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to optimize the customer experience. You will navigate ambiguous challenges, identify new opportunities, and deliver solutions that balance short-term wins with long-term value. If you are a self-starter who thrives on turning data into action and influencing outcomes across teams, we want to hear from you.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop and execute category strategies by analyzing financial performance, market trends, and customer insights to maximize growth and profitability across your category portfolio.

  • Manage vendor and supplier relationships, including negotiating terms, evaluating performance, and ensuring alignment with category objectives and pricing strategies.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams — such as marketing, supply chain, finance, and product — to drive category initiatives, remove blockers, and deliver results against business plans.

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of complex projects by identifying risks, presenting multiple solution paths to leadership, and making informed trade-offs between competing priorities.

  • Mentor and develop team members while modeling best practices in category management, process improvement, and the responsible use of analytical tools including generative AI.

A day in the life

You might start your morning reviewing category performance dashboards, identifying trends that inform a pricing recommendation you will present to leadership later that week. By midday, you are in a working session with marketing and supply chain partners, aligning on a promotional plan for an upcoming event. In the afternoon, you dig into a vendor negotiation, balancing cost targets with selection goals. Throughout it all, you bring clarity to ambiguous problems and help your team prioritize what matters most.

About the team

Our team is focused on creating a world-class shopping experience by building the right product selection at the right price for our customers. We operate in a collaborative, fast-paced environment where analytical thinking and creative problem-solving go hand in hand. We are investing in new ways to grow our categories and improve the customer journey, and this role will be central to shaping that vision. If you are excited about working with talented colleagues who care deeply about the customer and about each other, this is the team for you.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or above

  • 5+ years of business development, account management, product management, project management, financial analysis and/or marketing experience

  • Experience leading analysis, customer segmentation and/or product behavior analysis

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with stakeholders to plan and execute programs that are strategic in nature
