Responsibilities

Schedule: Rotating shifts within a 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, seven-day on-site coverage window, plus participation in a shared after-hours on-call rotation.

About the Role

Peraton is seeking a Mid-Level Platform Engineer to support the development, operation, and sustainment of a mission-critical enterprise software platform for an Intelligence Community customer. The platform provides a standardized developer and user experience across multiple classified enclaves, leveraging a zero trust, hub-and-spoke architecture.

The Mid-Level Platform Engineer will perform hands-on platform engineering, infrastructure automation, and Tier 3 technical support activities to maintain platform availability, reliability, and performance. This role will support the deployment and sustainment of containerized workloads, infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and shared platform services while troubleshooting and resolving escalated technical issues across the enterprise. Working within a cross-functional engineering and operations team, the engineer will collaborate with senior personnel, cybersecurity staff, and Tier 2 support to deliver reliable platform capabilities to mission users.

What You Will Do

  • Deploy, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot platform components across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments, including Kubernetes-based container platforms.

  • Support the operation and sustainment of containerized workloads, including application deployments, configuration management, and platform updates.

  • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform, Ansible, or similar automation technologies.

  • Support CI/CD pipeline development and maintenance to enable secure, repeatable platform deployments.

  • Implement and maintain platform security configurations, including identity-aware access, network segmentation, and least-privilege controls.

  • Assist with onboarding new mission tenants, applications, and shared services onto the enterprise platform.

  • Monitor platform health, availability, and performance using logging, metrics, alerting, and dashboard technologies.

  • Provide Tier 3 technical support for escalated incidents involving compute, storage, networking, identity, and container infrastructure.

  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues across Linux operating systems, DNS, routing, load balancing, firewalls, and identity and access management.

  • Investigate incidents, document findings, and support root cause analysis and corrective action development.

  • Resolve technical issues within established service levels and escalate complex problems to senior engineers and platform leadership as appropriate.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting procedures, and operational runbooks.

  • Support the implementation of corrective actions and automation improvements to reduce recurring incidents.

  • Collaborate with cybersecurity personnel to maintain security configurations, continuous monitoring activities, and accreditation documentation.

  • Provide technical guidance to Tier 2 support personnel and contribute to knowledge-sharing activities.

  • Participate in rotating on-site shifts and the shared after-hours on-call rotation to support continuous platform operations.

Location: This position is fully onsite in Chantilly, VA.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, with 5+ years of relevant experience. Additional 4 years of relevant experience may be substituted for a degree.

  • Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting containerized workloads in production environments using Kubernetes or a Kubernetes-based platform.

  • Experience supporting at least one major cloud environment (AWS, Azure, or a government cloud region) and hybrid cloud or on-premises infrastructure.

  • Working knowledge of infrastructure as code technologies, including Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools.

  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical issues across Linux systems, networking technologies (DNS, routing, load balancing, and firewalls), and identity and access management layers.

  • Experience supporting production systems under defined service levels, including incident and problem management.

  • DoD 8140 / 8570 IAT Level II certification, such as Security+ CE, or the ability to obtain the required certification within the established timeframe.

  • Ability to work rotating shifts within the established seven-day on-site coverage window and participate in the shared after-hours on-call rotation.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting enterprise platforms across multiple classification levels or security enclaves, including cross-domain data movement.

  • Familiarity with zero trust architecture principles and their implementation within cloud environments.

  • Experience with IT service management (ITSM) tools, including ServiceNow.

  • Familiarity with observability tools and platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or Elastic.

  • Experience supporting Risk Management Framework (RMF) authorization activities or continuous Authority to Operate (cATO).

  • Kubernetes certifications, such as CKA, CKAD, or CKS, and/or a cloud professional certification.

  • Prior experience supporting Intelligence Community or Department of Defense mission programs.
