Full job description

Job Description

-We are seeking a Principal Technical Architect to provide enterprise-level technical leadership for a mission-critical application modernization initiative supporting the Department of War (DoW). In this role, you will own the target architecture, establish technical standards, and guide architectural decisions across a modern, secure, and integrated application platform. You will serve as the principal technical authority, working closely with the Platform Lead, development teams, and government stakeholders to ensure solutions are scalable, interoperable, secure, and aligned with program objectives. This is an opportunity for an experienced architect to shape a complex modernization effort, establish architectural direction, and lead the technical integration of modern applications with legacy systems. Enterprise Architecture & Technical Leadership: -Own and maintain the target architecture, including all architectural design decisions of record. -Define and oversee the architecture for identity federation and attribute-based access control, the composable application shell, the event-driven work-item hub, externalized business rules, the capability registry, and the integration gateway. -Establish technical direction and architectural standards to support secure, scalable, and interoperable enterprise applications. -Serve as the senior technical authority over the Platform Lead and development squad leads, ensuring architectural consistency across the program. Application Integration & Governance: -Define the integration levels through which applications connect to and participate in the enterprise platform. -Establish architectural conformance checks and technical requirements governing application onboarding. -Review and approve application manifests before applications are admitted into the capability registry. -Ensure architectural decisions support secure integration between modern applications and legacy systems. Stakeholder Engagement & Architecture Oversight: -Present and defend architectural designs and decisions during sprint demonstrations, phase-exit reviews, and customer architecture and authorization boards. -Collaborate with technical teams and government stakeholders to ensure solutions align with established architectural requirements. -Provide architectural guidance throughout implementation to ensure development teams deliver solutions consistent with the approved target architecture.

Skills and Requirements

-Active Secret security clearance or higher. -15+ years of experience in software architecture, including hands-on delivery of enterprise-scale solutions. -Demonstrated experience designing and delivering identity-federated, zero-trust web platforms. -Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures and integration with legacy systems. -Proven track record of developing architectures that multiple engineering teams have successfully implemented. -Strong technical leadership skills, including the ability to establish architectural direction and guide multidisciplinary development teams. -Ability to communicate complex architectural decisions effectively to technical teams, government stakeholders, and review boards. -Experience with Keycloak, Open Policy Agent (OPA), Debezium, Envoy, and Kubernetes deployed within AWS GovCloud. -Familiarity with Department of War (DoW) Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements.
