Company Overview

At Lilly, we unite caring with discovery to make life better for people around the world. We are a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our 50,000+ employees around the world work to discover and bring life-changing medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and give back to our communities through philanthropy and volunteerism. We give our best effort to our work, and we put people first. We're looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world.

The Customer Insights and Analytics (CIA) organization is Lilly's business-facing insight and analytics capability, uniting Market Research and Analytics into a single, integrated partnership model that helps our business partners make faster, better, more customer-centered decisions.

Position Overview

The Senior Director, Global Market Research owns market research for a global platform and holds the primary business partnership with the platform's global marketing teams. This leader frames what the business needs to learn, sets and prioritizes the platform's research agenda, and interprets findings into one decision-ready narrative for global brand and franchise leadership, representing the customer's perspective (patient, HCP, payer). Analytics is a supporting input, brought in only when a decision requires it: this person can produce basic analysis directly with AI analyst tools and escalates complex or novel analytics to the US Marketing Analytics lead.

This role reports to the Associate Vice President (AVP) – Immunology Strategic Intelligence and partners closely, in a matrixed model, with the US Marketing Analytics lead — the peer who owns the US marketing partnership and analytics, and who calls on this role to conduct research as needed for US business decisions — along with centralized Research Science and the broader analytics and AI/data-foundation teams.

Responsibilities

Global Business Partnership & Market Acumen

  • Hold the primary business partnership with the platform's global marketing teams — serving as the relationship owner and trusted advisor on the market-research agenda and representing the voice of the customer alongside the evidence base.

  • Act as the main point of contact for the platform's market-research agenda: the place a business question enters, is framed into the right research, and is routed to the right work, at the right time.

  • Influence global brand, franchise, and therapeutic area strategy and decision forums, bringing integrated customer insight to the decisions that shape the platform.

  • Maintain a deep, current understanding of key customers, platform strategy, portfolio and product priorities, and competitive dynamics, and translate that understanding into clear, decision-ready recommendations.

Team Leadership & Coaching

  • Set clear expectations and participate in budget ownership at the platform level — managing the prioritization and allocation of people, time, and research spend across the platform's agenda — within the overall market-research budget the AVP owns for the therapeutic area.

  • Model and reinforce a “one team” culture across market research and analytics, reducing duplication of effort and competition for business attention.

  • Coach and develop market-research associates, including in matrixed relationships without direct reporting authority, and take accountability for developing talent that advances into broader business or team leadership roles.

  • Hold the team accountable for operating in new, optimized ways aligned with the teams agentic strategy.

Learning Agenda Ownership & Framing

  • Own the market-research learning plan for the platform (what to learn, why it matters, and in what order) as a continuous, year-round activity, nested within the therapeutic-area-wide intelligence agenda the AVP prioritizes across platforms.

  • Frame ambiguous or cross-cutting business questions into the right research approach, deciding what each question needs.

  • Prioritize and re-sequence the agenda as new business questions and market developments arise, and help rank the platform's requests within the team's shared backlog.

Market Research Delivery & Insight Synthesis

  • Assign market-research associates to the decisions that matter most, providing craft direction and quality oversight across the platform's studies.

  • Conduct research for US business needs when requested by the US Marketing Analytics lead — the peer who owns the US marketing partnership — partnering to deliver one integrated point of view.

  • Oversee end-to-end delivery — working directly with external research vendors, drawing on centralized Research Science for methods, quality standards, vendor governance, panel management, cross-TA studies, and specialized techniques, and using AI tools to complete the work.

  • Think critically and independently about research design and findings, and lead others to do the same, synthesizing insight across qualitative, quantitative, and analytics inputs into one clear, decision-ready narrative.

  • Identify where findings agree, conflict, or need reconciliation before they reach senior stakeholders, and coach business partners on how to frame the questions market research is best positioned to answer.

Central Capabilities & AI-Enabled Ways of Working

  • Complete research through the right mix of channels — external vendors for most execution, centralized Research Science for methods, standards, vendor governance, panel management, cross-TA work, and specialized techniques, and AI tools for speed and scale — holding framing, judgment, and interpretation in the platform team while shared standards and vendor governance are built once and maintained centrally rather than duplicated per platform.

  • Apply AI-enabled methods (synthetic respondents, automated synthesis, predictive and agentic approaches) to speed up early-stage, exploratory, and standard research, reserving human-led primary research for the highest-stakes decisions.

  • Leverage human judgment for framing the question, catching a flawed sample, and interpreting results in context — AI informs the decision; it does not make it. Represent the platform's needs in shaping the teams broader AI/agentic roadmap.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • 5+ years of experience in market research or a related insight-generating function.

Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role, including but not limited to F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1.

Additional Skills / Preferences

  • MBA or other advanced degree a plus.

  • Demonstrated depth in market-research craft (learning-agenda design, qualitative and quantitative methods, launch and tracking research) and working fluency in analytics.

  • Experience serving as a primary point of contact for senior business stakeholders, ideally within a matrixed or shared-services organization.

  • Skill in framing business questions and synthesizing insight, connecting findings across methods and data sources into a single, coherent business narrative.

  • Ability to influence senior individuals and teams, including at the therapeutic area and leadership level, without direct authority.

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, competing priorities, and complex, matrixed stakeholder landscapes.

  • Strong track record partnering closely with analytics.

  • Experience designing or overseeing launch measurement, brand tracking, or integrated learning agendas at global scale.

  • Experience applying AI tools and techniques within market research (for example, synthetic data/respondents, automated analysis, agentic approaches), or strong interest and aptitude in building this capability.

  • Experience partnering with centralized research-methods, vendor, and panel-management teams.

  • Relevant therapeutic area experience (Immunology, GI) a plus.

  • Experience supporting a product launch and the in-market strategy that follows it

.

Additional Information

  • 10 – 25% travel depending on business need.

  • Lilly may provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role for internal applicants only
