Job Title: Laboratory LeadJob Description

We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Lead to oversee the operations of our accredited construction materials laboratory. This role involves maintaining and developing laboratory testing programs and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results. You will be responsible for entering data gathered from laboratory tests into reports and handling laboratory equipment, including performing equipment calibrations and tracking maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Enter data gathered from laboratory tests into reports.

  • Maintain and develop laboratory testing programs.

  • Handle laboratory equipment, including performing equipment calibrations and tracking equipment maintenance.

  • Understand and apply ASTM standards, USACE documentation, and manage a CMEC accredited laboratory.

  • Conduct physical laboratory testing of soils, concrete, and asphalt in accordance with applicable ASTM procedures.

  • Interpret and communicate test procedures, specifications, and results effectively with team members, customers, consultants, and specifiers.

  • Possess a complete knowledge and understanding of all equipment, test methods, and applicable specifications associated with areas of responsibility.

  • Perform laboratory testing on soils, aggregates, concrete, and other construction materials.

  • Conduct sieve analysis, moisture content, density, and related testing.

  • Ensure testing is completed in accordance with ASTM standards.

  • Serve as the primary laboratory resource supporting approximately 10-11 field technicians.

  • Maintain testing equipment and uphold laboratory quality standards.

  • Coordinate daily workflow and prioritize testing needs within the lab.

Essential Skills

  • Technical competence in interpreting and communicating test procedures and results.

  • Experience and skills in using computers and software efficiently for job duties.

  • Understanding of ASTM standards and USACE documentation.

  • 3+ years of construction materials testing (CMT) or geotechnical laboratory experience.

  • Experience performing soil and aggregate testing, including sieve analysis.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree from a technical or four-year school preferred.

  • Experience managing a construction materials laboratory is highly preferred.

  • ACI Certifications in Concrete Strength, Aggregate Base, and Aggregate Testing.

  • CTQP Certified LBR Testing.

Work Environment

This position involves working in a laboratory environment, which requires physical testing of materials such as soils, concrete, and asphalt. Approximately 60% of the role is laboratory-based, while 40% involves field work. The laboratory operates in accordance with CMEC accreditation standards and requires adherence to ASTM procedures. The role offers the opportunity to work independently while collaborating closely with field and operations teams. Standard use of laboratory testing equipment, computer software, and industry testing procedures is expected.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Louis, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
