Overview:

The CBS Evening News with Tony Dokoupil and CBS Weekend News with Jericka Duncan are seeking a full-time experienced and exceptional News Writer for our live national broadcasts. You must possess exemplary news judgement, thrive under deadline pressure, and translate complex stories into clear, accurate, and viewer-engaging language.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Write sharp, active, and compelling anchor copy for live newscasts, breaking news, and special reports (including intros, tags, VOs and teases).

  • Research stories and verify facts using reliable sources.

  • Maintain accuracy, fairness, and balance while meeting tight deadlines.

  • Monitor news wires, social media, and other sources for breaking developments.

  • Ensure all copy meets journalistic, legal, and CBS News editorial standards.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Membership in the Writers Guild of America.

  • 5+ years of TV news writing experience in a network or major-market newsroom.

  • Bachelors degree in journalism or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Write in accordance with AP Style.

  • Well-developed news judgment and passion for current events.

  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and adapt quickly.

  • Experience with newsroom computer systems (ENPS, iNews, Slack).

  • Exemplary collaboration and communication skills.

  • Flexible schedule, including regular weekday and weekend hours, and as news demands.

  • Ability to work on-site at our NY Broadcast Center.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $100,000.00 - 105,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
