Full job description

About the Role:

We're seeking a Senior Technical Writer to create clear, accurate, and developer-friendly technical documentation that transforms complex API specifications and code into comprehensive guides. This role bridges engineering and documentation, specializing in API reference documentation, integration guides, and code-to-doc workflows using industry standards like OpenAPI Specification (OAS).

The Senior Technical Writer produces high-quality content deliverables including API reference documentation, SDKs, how-to guides, tutorials, and code examples.

What You'll Do:

Content Creation & Deliverables

  • Create comprehensive API documentation from OpenAPI Specification files, including endpoint descriptions, parameters, authentication, error handling, and code examples

  • Develop SDK documentation that guides developers through library installation, configuration, and implementation

  • Write integration guides and tutorials that walk developers through common use cases step-by-step

  • Produce how-to guides focused on practical developer workflows and implementation patterns

  • Create code examples in multiple languages (JavaScript, Python, Go, etc.) that demonstrate API usage

  • Document webhooks, authentication mechanisms, and best practices for API consumption

Technical Competency

  • Manage code-to-doc workflows, including parsing and organizing API specifications using tools like Swagger/OpenAPI

  • Leverage generative AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, specialized API doc generators) to accelerate initial documentation drafts from code, OpenAPI specs, and code samples

  • Evaluate and refine AI-generated content for accuracy, completeness, clarity, and alignment with company voice and standards

  • Understand when and how to use AI effectively in documentation workflows—from generating initial reference documentation to creating code examples and tutorials

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to extract technical information, clarify undocumented behavior, and ensure accuracy

  • Understand API design principles (REST, GraphQL concepts) and communicate them clearly to developers

  • Work with version control systems (GitHub) to manage documentation updates alongside code releases

  • Implement and test code samples for accuracy and functionality

  • Stay current with API documentation best practices and emerging tools in the developer documentation space, including AI-assisted documentation generation

Content Consistency & Quality

  • Maintain documentation consistency across API endpoints, SDKs, and guides

  • Implement and adhere to documentation style guides for terminology, formatting, and code sample conventions

  • Audit existing API documentation for completeness, accuracy, and technical debt

  • Contribute to documentation standards and best practices across the organization

Who You Are:

Required

  • 10+ years of technical writing experience

  • Portfolio demonstrating strong API reference documentation and code examples

  • Proven experience with OpenAPI Specification and REST APIs

  • Proficiency with GitHub and markdown-based documentation workflows

  • Strong working knowledge of at least 2-3 programming languages

Preferred

  • Experience documenting SDKs or client libraries

  • Familiarity with code-to-doc automation tools or processes, including AI-assisted documentation generators

  • Portfolio examples showing use of generative AI to accelerate documentation creation

  • Experience evaluating and improving AI-generated technical content for accuracy and quality

  • Contributions to open-source documentation projects

  • Experience with documentation analytics and user feedback integration

  • Familiarity with developer relations or developer experience workflows

  • Experience with ReadMe, MkDocs, or similar documentation platforms

  • Knowledge of prompt engineering techniques for generating quality API documentation and code examples
