Director of External Engagement and Strategic Partnerships

About Stanford Law Executive Education

Stanford Law Executive Education delivers world-class programs designed to equip legal, business, and public sector leaders with the knowledge, skills, and networks to thrive in a rapidly evolving professional landscape. Anchored by Stanford Law School’s renowned faculty and bolstered by cross-disciplinary expertise from across Stanford University and Silicon Valley, our offerings span law, leadership, technology, and innovation.

While Stanford Law has a rich history of offering high-impact executive programs, Executive Education is now a newly formalized department poised for rapid growth. With a startup mindset and strong institutional foundation, we are expanding our reach and impact through new initiatives, strategic partnerships, and a growing professional staff.

About the Inaugural Position

We are seeking a strategic marketing and relationship leader to build the external reach of

Stanford Law Executive Education. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Executive Education

and Strategic Partnerships, you will lead marketing and audience growth, business

development, and partnerships that connect Stanford expertise with the needs of senior leaders

and organizations.

You will combine strategy with direct execution: shaping a recruitment campaign, developing a

custom-program proposal, building a relationship with another Stanford school, or engaging a

program sponsor. Working closely with the Director of Operations, faculty, and program staff,

you will align growth opportunities with program quality and delivery capacity. You will supervise

the Marketing Associate and develop the external engagement team as it grows.

In this role you will:

  • Develop and execute the department’s external engagement and growth strategy for executive education enrollment, custom programs, sponsorships, and other revenue-generating relationships. Establish priorities, goals, and metrics and advise the Associate Dean on market positioning and growth opportunities.

  • Build partnerships with other Stanford schools, departments, faculty, and program leaders to expand audiences, coordinate promotion, and develop joint offerings. Translate external needs and market opportunities into program and partnership concepts, working across Stanford to assess feasibility and develop proposals.

  • Lead business development with corporations, law firms, professional organizations, alumni, and other external stakeholders. Identify and cultivate prospective partners and clients, assess opportunities, and coordinate proposals and agreement development through appropriate Stanford processes.

  • Direct marketing and audience-development strategy, including outbound and digital communications, audience segmentation, lead generation, and conversion. Use enrollment, engagement, and market analysis to evaluate performance and recommend improvements to positioning, pricing, promotion, and recruitment.

  • Oversee marketing and audience-development strategy for executive education and related programs, including outbound and digital marketing, lead generation, audience segmentation, campaign strategy, and conversion. Use enrollment, engagement, and market data to evaluate performance and recommend changes to program positioning, pricing, promotion, and audience strategy.

  • Serve as a senior point of contact for sponsors, custom executive education clients, and key external stakeholders. Steward relationships from initial outreach through ongoing engagement, balancing partner objectives with Stanford’s standards, reputation, and long-term interests. Represent the department with senior internal and external constituencies.

  • Lead participant experience and community engagement for Directors’ College and other flagship programs and professional networks. Oversee participant-facing event activities that support marketing and recruitment, coordinating with Operations on execution and service. Strengthen retention, alumni relationships, and engagement beyond individual programs.

  • Manage assigned marketing and external engagement budgets, including estimating costs, recommending resource allocations, monitoring spending, and adjusting plans within approved budgets and delegated authority. Manage relevant vendor and consultant relationships and evaluate deliverables against program and marketing goals.

  • Lead and develop marketing and external engagement staff, including the Marketing Associate and future additional direct reports as the team grows. Set priorities, allocate work, coach and train staff, and coordinate activities with Operations and program colleagues. Improve workflows so marketing, partnerships, and participant engagement support shared departmental goals.

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and mentor a marketing associate.
