Position Summary

Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials Company (PacSci EMC) is seeking an EHS Specialist to provide hands-on environmental, health, and safety support for expanding weekend manufacturing operations in Hollister, California. This newly established position will serve as a primary onsite safety resource during assigned weekend shifts, helping employees recognize hazards, respond to incidents, reinforce safe work practices, and maintain accurate safety records in a highly regulated energetic-materials manufacturing environment. The role is designed for a motivated early-career professional who demonstrates sound judgment, strong communication, and a willingness to learn through structured training and mentorship.

Work Schedule and Training

  • Initial training and onboarding will take place Monday through Friday for approximately six to eight weeks (about two months), followed by a regular Friday-through-Sunday onsite weekend schedule.

  • Training will include site procedures, energetic-materials safety, incident response, process safety fundamentals, and OSHA 30 coursework.

  • Exact weekend hours and any requirements for availability outside scheduled shifts will be confirmed before posting.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as an onsite EHS contact during assigned weekend shifts; respond to employee safety questions and incidents, evaluate concerns, and escalate issues as appropriate.

  • Conduct routine manufacturing-floor observations and Gemba walks to identify unsafe conditions, reinforce safe work practices, and document findings.

  • Perform assigned safety inspections, compliance reviews, and Kamishibai audits; track findings and coordinate follow-up corrective actions.

  • Maintain accurate safety documentation, including incident and injury records, audit logs, spreadsheets, safety communications, and related program records.

  • Support incident investigations, employee safety concerns, and occupational exposure reviews; assist with root-cause evaluation and corrective actions.

  • Apply established stop-work procedures and authority when unsafe conditions are identified, coordinating with site leadership and appropriate EHS personnel.

  • Support process hazard analyses, Process Safety Management (PSM) activities, and reviews of manufacturing process changes under the guidance of experienced EHS team members.

  • Help communicate safety requirements and deliver or reinforce safety briefings, training, and safe-work procedures for manufacturing personnel.

  • Assist with evaluation and coordination of engineering or administrative controls to reduce hazards and occupational exposure.

  • Support applicable environmental, health, safety, and energetic-materials regulatory compliance activities as assigned, in coordination with specialized team members.

  • Collaborate effectively with production, engineering, environmental, and site leadership teams; perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Zero to one year of relevant experience is acceptable; candidates with limited direct EHS experience and a strong aptitude for learning are encouraged to apply.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, remain calm when responding to safety concerns, and recognize when to stop work or escalate an issue.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage respectfully and confidently with employees across manufacturing operations.

  • Ability to document observations, maintain records, and use common computer applications, including spreadsheets.

  • Willingness and ability to work onsite in Hollister and transition to a regular Friday-through-Sunday schedule following weekday onboarding.

  • Ability to work safely in an energetic-materials manufacturing environment and follow established site safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education or technical training in occupational safety, environmental health, industrial hygiene, or a related field.

  • Prior exposure to EHS programs, manufacturing operations, industrial safety, or construction safety.

  • Familiarity with OSHA requirements, hazard identification, incident investigation, audits, or process safety concepts.

  • Ability to learn and interpret applicable requirements, which may include OSHA, NFPA, EPA, DOT, DOE, DTSC, ATF, and DoD standards as relevant to assigned work.

Supervisory Responsibility

None. This is an individual-contributor position.
