Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Adult Education English Language Learner (ELL) Instructor – Part-Time
SALARY RANGE: $25.00 with a Bachelor’s Degree or $30.00 with a teaching license
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Jennie Gorski
OVERVIEW:
The South Bend Community School Corporation Adult Education Program is seeking a
dedicated and student-centered Adult Education English Language Learner (ELL) Instructor to
provide high-quality English language instruction to adult learners. The instructor will support
students in developing English language skills needed for everyday life, employment, workforce
training, further education, and participation in the community.
This position is aligned with the Adult Education High School Equivalency (HSE) Teacher
position and requires an individual who is organized, dependable, flexible, and passionate about
helping adult learners reach their educational and career goals.
WORK SCHEDULE:
This is a part-time position of approximately 20–25 hours per week. The schedule will include
morning and evening classes, depending on program and student needs.
Specific work hours and locations will be determined based on enrollment, program needs, and
available class schedules.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide engaging English language instruction to adult learners at varying English proficiency levels.

Develop and implement lessons that support students in speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary development, and grammar.

Incorporate real-world, workforce, digital literacy, and civic education concepts into instruction when appropriate.

Assess student needs and adjust instruction to support individual learning goals.

Maintain a positive, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment for adult learners from diverse backgrounds.

Monitor student attendance, participation, progress, and educational outcomes.

Administer or assist with required student assessments and maintain accurate student records and documentation.

Enter and maintain required student information, attendance, assessments, and progress data in program and state data systems.

Support students in setting educational, employment, and career goals.

Collaborate with Adult Education staff, community partners, and workforce training programs to connect students with additional resources and opportunities.

Participate in required professional development, staff meetings, and program activities.

Follow all South Bend Community School Corporation policies and Adult Education program requirements.

Communicate professionally and effectively with students, staff, and program leadership.

Assist with student recruitment, retention, and outreach efforts as needed.

Perform other duties related to the Adult Education Program as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
-
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
-
Experience teaching English language learners, adult education, ESL/ELL, or a related educational setting.

Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
-
Experience with workforce education, career pathways, or integrated education and training programs.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
-
Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.

Ability to work effectively with a diverse adult learner population.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.
-
Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation in a timely manner.

Basic computer skills and the ability to use technology to support instruction and student learning.

Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team.

Commitment to helping adult learners achieve their educational, employment, and personal goals.

Knowledge of adult learning principles and differentiated instruction.
