Choose MITRE for a career with purpose — and help shape the future.
Department Summary:
The SI Accelerator Mission Analyst owns a sponsor mission use case from first framing to defensible result, transition, and mission impact. Analyst uses the MPS SI accelerator to rapidly solution and prototype for impact at the speed of mission. MPS is seeking to expand its use of the modular orchestration accelerator for expert-led mission analysis: it surfaces and assembles relevant tools, models, data, methods, and prior experience, and makes visible what is still missing. It does not supply the answer. This role is the expert who supplies the judgment — framing the question with the sponsor, choosing and applying methods, directing the SI workflow, leading verification and validation, and standing behind the conclusion.
About the Role
The MPS SI Accelerator has moved from an internal project to sponsor-facing delivery through Transportation, Census, and IRS, and has generated opportunities within DHS and VA. The next step is to scale its use: projects and strategic programs bring work to the accelerator before sponsor delivery, and each use case leaves behind reusable workflows, knowledge, and evidence. SI Accelerator Mission Analysts are the analytic leads who make that happen. You will work alongside SI engineers, agent and MCP builders, and the LLM-Wiki team, and directly with sponsors and MPS project teams.
Work Environment
McLean, VA, with regular on-site collaboration with the SI accelerator team and sponsors. Some sponsor-site travel may be required.
Roles & Responsibilities
-
Lead one or more accelerator mission use cases end to end: scope the sponsor problem, define the decision it supports, and set success measures and the evidence threshold the decision requires.
-
Translate mission questions into analytic workflows — methods, models, data, and assumptions and direct accelerator engineers and agents in assembling, configuring, and running them.
-
Use the accelerator to identify available capabilities and gaps (missing data, models, methods, expertise, or validation sources), and drive plans to close the gaps that matter.
-
Own analytic rigor: lead fit-for-purpose verification and validation, examine provenance and intermediate results, characterize uncertainty and limitations, and ensure conclusions are defensible to sponsors and MITRE leadership.
-
Serve as the primary analytic interface to sponsors and MPS project teams for the use case and application of the accelerator; brief findings, trade-offs, and recommendations to decision makers.
-
Package what works- workflows, lessons, and evidence- into reusable accelerator patterns and knowledge so each use case compounds the next.
-
Shape follow-on work: turn successful use cases into sponsor-funded tasks and transition paths with center and project leads.
-
Mentor analysts and project staff in using the accelerator appropriately, and support the accelerator front door (intake, office hours) and contributor community.
Basic Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree and 8+ years of relevant experience or a PhD and 5+ years experience, in operations research, systems analysis, applied mathematics, economics, engineering, data science, or a related analytic field.
-
Demonstrated leadership of analytic studies from problem framing through sponsor-facing results, including choosing methods and defending conclusions.
-
Hands-on experience with modeling and simulation, quantitative analysis, or decision analysis (for example, systems/mission analysis, optimization, socio-technical or system-of-systems modeling, or analysis of alternatives).
-
Working knowledge of verification and validation practice and of communicating uncertainty and limitations to decision makers.
-
Practical experience using AI and LLM tools in analytic work, with sound judgment about where they help and where expert review is required.
-
Strong written and oral communication, including briefing senior government and MITRE leaders.
-
Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust determination. Per the U.S. Government’s eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for this determination.
-
This position requires a minimum of 3 days per week on-site
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience in one or more MPS mission areas: transportation, homeland security and emergency management, health, or government effectiveness and modernization.
-
Experience with agentic SI workflows, MCP-connected tools, or retrieval-augmented knowledge systems such as the LLM-Wiki.
-
Programming for analysis (Python, R, or equivalent) and familiarity with MITRE models and tool portfolios.
-
Record of converting prototypes or studies into funded sponsor work.
-
Participation in SI accelerator, VibeLab Challenges, or comparable rapid-prototyping efforts.
-
Advanced degree in quantitative or analytic discipline.
