Come join the Traylor Construction Group! Sterling Industrial LLC., is currently looking for a Certified Payroll Specialist to join the team!
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The Certified Payroll Specialist is responsible for supporting accurate and timely payroll administration with a primary focus on certified payroll, prevailing wage, and other project-specific payroll requirements. This position works closely with Payroll, Human Resources, Project Teams, and Field Administration to ensure employee pay, classifications, wage rates, fringe benefits, and required payroll documentation comply with applicable project, company, and regulatory requirements.
The Certified Payroll Specialist serves as a key resource for certified payroll compliance and is responsible for identifying and resolving payroll discrepancies, maintaining required documentation, and ensuring certified payroll reports are completed accurately and submitted within required deadlines.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Prepare, review, and submit certified payroll reports for applicable projects in accordance with contract and regulatory requirements.

Review employee classifications, wage determinations, prevailing wage rates, fringe benefit requirements, and hours worked to ensure employees are paid appropriately.

Monitor applicable Davis Bacon, state prevailing wage, and other project-specific wage requirements.

Maintain current wage determinations and identify changes that may impact employee pay rates or fringe benefit requirements.

Review payroll information for accuracy and investigate discrepancies involving hours, pay rates, classifications, overtime, deductions, or fringe benefits.

Coordinate with Project Teams and Field Administration to obtain accurate and timely payroll information and resolve missing or incorrect documentation.

Maintain certified payroll records and supporting documentation in accordance with company, contractual, and regulatory recordkeeping requirements.

Complete and submit required certified payroll forms and reports, including WH 347 or other federal, state, local, or customer-specific documentation.

Assist with payroll and certified payroll audits by gathering records, responding to documentation requests, and researching discrepancies.

Monitor certified payroll submission requirements and deadlines across assigned projects.

Work with project teams during project startup to identify certified payroll, prevailing wage, and reporting requirements.

Assist with determining appropriate employee classifications and applicable wage and fringe requirements when employees perform work covered by prevailing wage requirements.

Research certified payroll and prevailing wage questions and escalate complex compliance matters when appropriate.

Maintain confidentiality of employee payroll and personal information.

Identify opportunities to improve certified payroll processes, documentation, tracking, and reporting.

Provide guidance and training to Field Administration and Project Teams regarding certified payroll processes and documentation requirements.

Perform other payroll and administrative responsibilities as assigned.
Education/Experience
-
Associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Human Resources, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

Three or more years of payroll or related experience preferred, with construction industry experience a plus.

Experience with certified payroll, prevailing wage, Davis Bacon requirements, wage determinations, and fringe benefits preferred.

Strong attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with project teams, field personnel, and other departments.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and payroll, ERP, certified payroll, or reporting systems.
Physical Demands
