Full job description
At Lilly, the work is demanding because patients are waiting. We unite caring with discovery to help make life better for people around the world, knowing that every decision, every detail, and every day matters. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, our over 50,000 employees around the globe take on complex challenges to discover and deliver life-changing medicines, strengthen how health is understood and managed, and support the communities we serve. This is hard, urgent, selfless work—but it’s work worth doing. If you’re driven by purpose and ready to bring your best to work that truly matters for patients, we invite you to join us.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lilly now understands its work at the task level. That understanding is only worth what someone does with it.
This role does something with it. It looks at how work is actually built and sees what becomes possible: a process that could run in a third of the steps, a decision that no longer needs a meeting, a question an HR Business Partner could answer in a minute instead of a month. Then it designs and delivers the thing that makes it real.
This is solution design, not reporting. It is closer to product than to analysis. The person in this role thinks in workflows, sees where technology can carry the load, and is one of the strongest voices in HR for what AI and automation can genuinely do.
Much of this work happens in white space. There is no established process to inherit and no finished answer to copy. The right approach is iterative: build a rough version, put it in front of real users, learn what was wrong, and improve it. Progress here comes from shipping something small and getting better fast, not from waiting for a complete plan.
Design solutions that create speed
-
Design solutions that convert Lilly's understanding of work into speed for the business, moving from what the data makes possible to a working tool, workflow, or process.
-
Map processes end to end, find where the friction actually sits, and design the workflow that removes it.
-
Identify what internal customers across functions and geographies actually need, and develop solutions that meet it rather than solutions that are convenient to build.
Redesign how work gets done
-
Lead work redesign efforts with functions and HR partners, rebuilding how work is composed so capacity is created where the business needs it most.
-
Understand how the work data is constructed, including tasks, skills, and job structures, so every solution is built on the real architecture rather than on assumptions about it.
Build with technology partners
-
Partner closely with Tech at Lilly and HR Technology to build and integrate enabling tools, translating business need into technical requirement and back again.
-
Work with external technology partners on the solutions they deliver, holding them to what was agreed and feeding real user experience back into their roadmap.
Enable the business and HR to act
-
Enable business leaders, Strategic Business Partners, and HR Business Partners to act on their own, through education, upskilling, and tools they can use confidently without help.
-
Advocate for artificial intelligence and automation across the HR organization, making the credible case, running the pilots, and showing the result.
Deliver iteratively
-
Work iteratively, releasing early versions to real users, learning from how they are actually used, and improving from there.
-
Lead projects with real complexity and risk, anticipating and resolving the operational and technical problems that would otherwise stall them.
Basic Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree
-
Minimum of 3 years of experience in Human Resources
-
Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role, including but not limited to F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1
Preferences
-
Experience designing processes, workflows, or digital solutions from the ground up
-
Working familiarity with Workday and other HR platforms, and comfort learning new tools quickly
-
Practical understanding of where AI and automation create value and where they do not
-
Strong facilitation and teaching ability, with a track record of building capability in others
-
Ability to translate fluently between business, HR, and technical audiences
-
Exposure to work design, organizational design, or transformation programs
-
Comfort working in white space, where the problem is not yet defined and the path has to be invented
-
An iterative mindset, with a preference for testing a rough version over perfecting a plan
-
Experience partnering with technology organizations and external vendors on delivery
