This FPGA Engineer will be expected to work on site on a 9-80 schedule and participate in FPGA developments including requirements, system design, detailed design, and hardware integration on cutting-edge systems for new product development. The diverse product portfolio provides opportunities to work on ultra-high speed, ultra-large format infrared cameras, launch vehicle avionics, and orbital vehicle communications. The main responsibilities of the FPGA engineer will be a focus on product development for design, implementation, verification, and integration of VHDL components as well as participating in VHDL peer reviews. This is a cross functional role and communication with both internal and external customers will be required in addition to the analysis of component synthesis, timing, and clock domain crossings. The main deliverables will come in the form of internal design reviews, project management and technical estimating. Broader breakdown includes: coding, simulation, documentation, iteration through engineering product lifecycle, 75% coding/design, 25% in the lab for simulation.

At least four years of direct, hands-on FPGA and VHDL design experience.

Ability to independently develop the VHDL logic that goes inside an FPGA, rather than only writing software that interfaces with an FPGA or verifying another engineer’s design.

End-to-end FPGA development experience, including: Requirements and architecture VHDL coding Simulation and verification Synthesis and implementation FPGA build generation Programming designs onto target hardware Hardware integration and lab debugging

Experience with ModelSim, Questa, or an equivalent logic simulation tool.

Experience with FPGA development tools from at least one major vendor, including AMD/Xilinx, Intel/Altera, or Microchip.

Strong digital hardware design knowledge with the ability to understand schematics, interfaces, device architecture, and hardware behavior.

Experience analyzing synthesis results, timing, timing closure, and clock domain crossings.

Experience working with standard streaming and memory-mapped interfaces such as Avalon or AMBA.

Experience with memory and digital interfaces, including DDR and related digital hardware architectures.

Ability to work across both FPGA logic development and hardware integration. The ideal profile will have approximately 60% hardware and 40% software/logic development.

Ability to clearly explain personal ownership of a design, including the VHDL written, design complexity, specific technical contributions, and work completed versus work owned by teammates.

Ability to work on-site in Mason, Ohio, on a 9/80 schedule, particularly during hardware integration and lab-testing phases. Experience with MATLAB and Simulink. Experience with GigE, 10GigE, or GigE Vision interfaces. Experience with launch vehicle avionics, orbital vehicle communications, infrared imaging systems, aerospace electronics, or defense-related product development.
