Full job description

Job Description: The Actuarial Associate, Growth is a member of Cityblock's Growth Actuary team, which serves as the company's pricing function for value-based care partnerships. This individual will report to the Manager, Growth Actuary and act as a hands-on contributor to underwriting analytics, partner data evaluation, and pricing model development for prospective markets. The role partners closely with Growth, Finance, and Valuation Actuary teams to translate partner data and contract terms into pricing and risk insights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support underwriting and pricing analyses for new and existing partner deals, including development of MLR targets
  • Write and maintain SQL queries to pull, join, and manipulate partner claims, eligibility, and revenue data
  • Build and maintain Excel/Sheets-based underwriting models and analytical exhibits
  • Develop and apply an understanding of Medicare and Medicaid program mechanics, underwriting selection criteria, and MLR/risk-contract structures
  • Actively participate in peer review of technical work and provide technical review support to teammates
  • Communicate analytical results and data findings clearly to internal stakeholders, escalating upcoming challenges proactively

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Data Analytics/Science; progress toward SOA credentials is a plus
  • 2+ years of experience with healthcare data and standard metrics (PMPM, gross margin, MLR, risk score), plus a basic understanding of Medicare and Medicaid
  • Strong SQL skills (joins, subqueries, aggregations, CTEs), including working with non-standard data; Python is a plus
  • Experience with Excel/Sheets; Power Pivot or VBA is a plus

The actual offer will be at the company’s sole discretion and determined by relevant business considerations, including the final candidate’s qualifications, years of experience, skillset, and geographic location.
