Full job description

Bring your clinical pharmacy expertise to a newly created role at the intersection of oncology research, investigational therapies, and Epic Beacon innovation. In this role, you will work hand in hand with the Oncology Research Teams and UVA Health Oncology IDS to help translate complex research protocols into accurate, operational treatment plans, supporting the timely activation of oncology studies and expanding access to emerging therapies.

This highly flexible hybrid opportunity is designed for a pharmacist with oncology, Beacon, or Epic build experience who thrives in a collaborative research environment. You will become a dedicated resource for Beacon treatment-plan development and validation while partnering with an experienced oncology research team committed to advancing patient care.

The Role

Based within the Oncology Investigational Drug Services team at the Emily Couric Cancer Center Pharmacy, you will focus on building, reviewing, and validating Epic Beacon treatment and supportive-care plans for adult oncology research studies. This role requires clinical judgment, technical precision, and the ability to coordinate effectively across interconnected research and clinical workflows.

Your average day may include:

  • Reviewing draft Beacon treatment plans submitted by clinical research coordinators.

  • Comparing treatment and supportive-care plans with study protocols to ensure alignment.

  • Verifying medications, laboratory requirements, premedications, timing, nursing instructions, and other protocol-driven components.

  • Preparing accurate plans for the next stage of the build and approval process.

  • Troubleshooting Beacon orders and helping colleagues navigate treatment-plan workflow issues.

  • Supporting oncology studies that do not fit neatly within traditional Investigational Drug Services workflows.

  • Collaborating with investigators, nurses, clinical research coordinators, pharmacists, builders, and other study stakeholders.

  • Potentially supporting treatment-plan needs involving the stem cell transplant team.

You will join a collaborative Oncology Investigational Drug Services group that manages a broad portfolio of active adult oncology studies. Because research protocols and study dependencies can evolve, success requires adaptability, thoughtful communication, comfort incorporating feedback, and the ability to maintain accuracy amid changing information.

The position follows a Monday-Friday hybrid schedule , with approximately one to two on-site days per month anticipated. During your first 6 to 12 months, you will build familiarity with Oncology Investigational Drug Services operations, study-processing workflows, templates, and review requirements, progressing toward independent ownership of studies and Beacon-related work.

  • The opportunity to develop deeper expertise in Beacon treatment-plan building, validation, and research operations.

  • A direct connection between the quality and efficiency of your work and the availability of oncology studies for patients.

Candidates may bring deep oncology and infusion experience, strong Epic or IT build expertise, or a combination of both.
