Job Title: Staff AccountantJob Description

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in analyzing production costs, monitoring inventory levels, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize manufacturing processes. This position performs advanced and specialized accounting activities to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, laws, and reporting requirements, with a strong focus on cost and operational accounting within a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the month-end close process by ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled in a timely manner.

  • Prepare and post journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts, and assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports.

  • Conduct detailed cost analysis of production, including direct materials, labor, and overhead, to ensure accuracy and identify cost-saving opportunities.

  • Supervise and monitor inventory levels, track usage, and reconcile discrepancies to ensure accurate valuation and minimize waste or shortages.

  • Prepare and present comprehensive reports on manufacturing costs, providing clear insights and recommendations to support informed decision-making by senior leadership.

  • Ensure strict compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements across all cost accounting activities.

  • Respond promptly to audit requests with accurate and complete supporting documentation.

  • Monitor and analyze cost variances, investigate discrepancies, and implement corrective measures to align actual results with budgeted targets.

  • Collaborate closely with production, procurement, finance, and other cross-functional teams to streamline processes and improve cost efficiency.

  • Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed asset accounting, and balance sheet reconciliations as needed to maintain accurate financial records.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in financial reporting, cost accounting, and inventory accounting processes.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3+ years of operational accounting experience within a manufacturing environment.

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic or vocational qualification in accounting, finance, or a related field.

  • Advanced knowledge of financial and cost accounting principles and best practices.

  • Proven experience in cost accounting, including cost analysis and variance analysis.

  • Hands-on experience with month-end close activities, including journal entries, general ledger posting, and account reconciliations.

  • Strong background in inventory accounting, including valuation, tracking, and reconciliation.

  • Experience supporting financial statements, including balance sheet and related schedules.

  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and presentation.

  • Intermediate ability to navigate and perform functions within ERP systems, with experience in QAD or Oracle Hyperion preferred.

  • Ability to quickly learn and apply advanced knowledge, skills, and expertise to financial and cost analysis.

  • Demonstrated project management capability with the ability to act as an effective and respected finance partner.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.

  • Ability to work effectively with ambiguity and complexity while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed asset accounting.

  • Prior involvement in preparing or supporting financial statements and related reporting.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing setting.

  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and contribute to more efficient accounting workflows.

  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.

  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a traditional degree.

  • Interest in a contract-to-hire, long-term career opportunity with room for growth.

Work Environment

This role is based in an on-site office environment, working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position operates within a manufacturing-focused finance organization that relies on ERP systems such as QAD or Oracle Hyperion and extensive use of Microsoft Excel. The work involves close collaboration with production, procurement, and finance teams, requiring regular interaction and communication across departments. The environment supports a professional office dress standard and offers a stable, long-term contract-to-hire opportunity with ongoing exposure to complex cost accounting and operational finance activities.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hillsboro, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $42.00 - $47.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
